I'm aware the album title was revealed a while ago but at least we have some more detail about it, plus a tour.
artwork is pretty cool too
|
| |
Pretty stoked about the album and the tour.
|
| |
hope they cover Crimson Glory
|
| |
September 18th - Montreal
|
| |
Artwork is a bit out there. I'm hoping for something different than Epicloud and Dark Matters this time, but stoked as always for Devy.
|
| |
New DTP is always a good thing and that is a great tour, shame I'm in the uk.
Oh, and where pray is this Montreal?
|
| |
You can tell by the cover that this will be totally over the top once again, but that's what he does best.
|
| |
Still skipping Utah I see, ughhhhhhhh.
Wish this was just his band and his vocals, tired of choirs and orchestras but we'll see. Haven't really been able to get into anything of his since Ghost, casualties was cool though.
|
| |
I hope this won't be another pop-metal album like Sky Blue, Epicloud and Addicted. As much as I like those albums I think the whole "fun pop song" formula he's been doing for the past few years is getting old.
|
| |
From what he, and others in the band, have been saying on twitter, this is going to be great. They are constantly saying how strong the material is; the hype is crazy. But then again, I didn't follow him around the time that epicloud et al were being released, so maybe he built those other albums up like crazy too.
Stars was pretty great though, and that was essentially only a demo, no doubt they will perfect it for the album
|
| |
This is supposed to be crazy epic with I think a full orchestra/chorus, so it'll probably be even bigger than Epicloud. That art is super weird, but it probably fits somehow? Definitely the oddest Townsend art.
|
| |
I heard that too^
Definitely makes me think this will be another let down for me :/
He's my favorite artist but I just can't get into his last few albums, kind of missing that honesty and personality he used to have.
|
| |
"This is supposed to be crazy epic with I think a full orchestra/chorus, so it'll probably be even bigger than Epicloud."
Now I'm really stoked, he's always at his best when he's over the top
|
| |
that's a fucking TOUR right there
|
| |
10/11 - Boise, ID - Knitting Factory (no DTP)
(no DTP)
Between the Buried and Me and Fallujah
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
|
| |
The honesty and personality's still there it just feels like he's capable of so much more. Casualties of Cool is the best thing he's done in ages and it almost completely did away with the "Devin Townsend formula".
I love the guy but I really want him to step out of the boundaries he's built around himself.
Also as nice a song as Stars was, it just sounds like a Sky Blue b-side. Ironically the b-sides for Epicloud showed a huge amount of potential.
|
| |
"This is supposed to be crazy epic with I think a full orchestra/chorus." I know he's recording a symphony once Transcendence is done, not sure bout an orchestra on this though.
"I hope this won't be another pop-metal album like Sky Blue, Epicloud and Addicted." From what he's been saying on Twitter for the past few months, it does seem like it's going to be something new for him. The album's going to open up with a re-recording of Truth, so they may give a hint at what the album might sound like.
|
| |
"re-recording of Truth"
cool, that was one of my favorite tracks on Infinity
|
| |
In the minority here, but I'm not tired of DTP yet so bring it.
Also, dat tour lineup.
|
| |
Artwork is lol. Stoked for the music though
|
| |
"From what he's been saying on Twitter for the past few months, it does seem like it's going to be something new for him."
He did a live stream and said that this is basically going to sound like DTP but with the Orchestra and Choir taken even further :/
|
| |
Not getting my hopes up about this release. Love Devy and I always will but his new stuff doesn't do anything for me.
I'm not missing the tour though!
|
| |
Yeah he's a lot of fun to see live, and he's still the man. I just want these choirs and orchestras to take a hike so we can hear the guitars and vocals again.
|
| |
"He did a live stream and said that this is basically going to sound like DTP but with the Orchestra and Choir taken even further :/." That sounds pretty fantastic to me, as long as it doesn't sound as bland as most of Sky Blue was. It seems like he wasn't really 100% commited to that record. It sounds like he's really inspired with Transcendence, so I'm really excited.
|
| |
09/22 - Detroit, MI - St. Andrews Hall
might actually go tbh
|
| |
Eh, haven't liked this guy's past few albums tbh. Thinking this will be more of the same overproduced pop-metal
|
| |
What's the point of re-recording Truth? It's fine as it is. Sure Infinity's mix leaves a lot to be desired but it'd suck for Dev to become the George Lucas of metal.
|
| |
When he re-recorded Hyperdrive he significantly changed the style of the song, so I'm guessing he'll do that with re-Truth. Probably have Anneke do the vocals, maybe make it more atmospheric and poppy.
|
| |
"it'd suck for Dev to become the George Lucas of metal."
Nah we have Dream Theater for that
|
| |
"When he re-recorded Hyperdrive he significantly changed the style of the song, so I'm guessing he'll do that with re-Truth. Probably have Anneke do the vocals, maybe make it more atmospheric and poppy."
Anneke will no doubt do vocals on it, but Kingdom's re-recording wasn't all too different from the original, just a ton better. So it could go either way. I don't think it's going to be in a new style, personally. Just better production.
|
| |
Will definitely be seeing him in Nashville.
|
| |
hahaha artfwork FTW. Tour features Between the Buried and Me & Fallujah, which is pretty sweet. Always a pleasure to hear what's going on in Townsend's brilliant mind.
|
| |
sounds exciting. Devin always delivers with something new.
|
| |
New Dev, awesome news
|
| |
Do more Casualties of the Cool.
|
| |
need more SYL
ammaright lads??? hehe
|
| |
DTP material is amazing up to Epicloud. Epicloud and Sky Blue were pretty good but Dark Matters was pretty disappointing.
Really looking forward to this album based on what the band has been saying.
|
| |
IT's probably gonna be another sky blue or addicted part 2 ! When Gathering singer is there we have a pretty good chance that mr Townsend will do us another pop metal album for sure !
|
| |
Dev said Anneke is used sparingly on the album
|
| |
canadian artist
0 canadian dates
as if i could dislike the guy any more
|
| |
not his fault moose don't buy tickets
|
| |
I doubt they gave Devin himself executive power over tour dates featuring fallujah and BTBAM...
|
| |
"Dev said Anneke is used sparingly on the album"
Anneke said she sings on SEVEN tracks
|
| |
"Anneke said she sings on SEVEN tracks"
Wow really? Well I guess she just sings backup for most of them then
|
| |
sigh
never wisconsin...
|
| |
Chicago House of Blues for me. This will be the fifth time I've seen BTBAM live this year and the first time I've seen Devin since Ozzfest a billion years ago. Although that was Strapping Young Lad. I've been waiting for BTBAM to play Coma Ecliptic in its entirety. King Redeem/Queen Serene!
|
| |
Never Wisconsin [2]
Devy needs to get his ass to Milwaukee or Madison
|
| |

Devin is friends with btbam and has toured with them in the past. He also spoke highly of coma ecliptic on Twitter last year. He also once said he doesn't get too much time to check out new metal bands but he heard a fallujah song and it was rad. Devy doesn't share your opinions friend.
|
| |
Devin better watch it. I don't want him to become the next Buckethead (Fuckithead).
|
| |
Orlando, here I come!
|
| |
not huge on the album art but still excited for this. just hope he does something with a little more depth than Epicloud and Sky Blue, those were fun but they wore off me pretty hard tbh
|
| |
As a fan who claims Sky Blue and Addicted as his favorite Devin albums, I am STOKED for this.
|
| |

I don't know what you're trying to say here, all I said was I doubt it was Devin who decided the tour dates for this.

Devin normies get out
|

"As a fan who claims Sky Blue and Addicted as his favorite Devin albums, I am STOKED for this."
I rank Addicted pretty highly as well, but Sky Blue? C'mon man. It's just a bland, not as great Epicloud.
|
| |
Addicted is my favorite Devy album period
|
| |
There's also a Toronto date set for the 20th. He's an intimidating act to see considering the massive discography (and the fact that I only spin 20% of it) but I'll probably go regardless. Hoping he plays some stuff from Ocean Machine.
|
| |
that album art is so batshit haha, gotta love it.
|
| |
I love Dev, but please don't let this be Sky Blue 2.0 (or Epicloud 3.0 I should say). I enjoyed Epicloud but SkyBlue just sounded like its weaker rehash with the exception of Universal Flame, which was an undeniably awesome song.
