AAL's Fear of Numbers

2016-10-18 by BeyondCosby | 48 Comments
Animals as Leaders have just released their second single and the opener to their latest album The Madness of Many. The song itself seems to tackle the various stages of Animals as Leader's career, starting off with a heavy groove reminiscent to "Weightless" before slipping into a jazz-infused ending similar to their self-titled. "The Madness of Many" will be released on November 11th and pre-orders are currently available.

Tracklist:
01. Arithmophobia
02. Ectogenesis
03. Cognitive Contortions
04. Inner Assassins
05. Private Visions Of The World
06. Backpfeifengesicht
07. Transcentience
08. The Glass Bridge
09. The Brain Dance
10. Aepirophobia

TIL "Backpfeifengesicht" is German for "a face in need of a slap".

It's definitely gonna be a different beast from anything they've done so far. The songs feel a little less formulaic that before.

I was thinking 'this is gonna be AAL all over again' and then 2:10 hit. Tosin's really figuring out the best way of getting that slapping in there.

Eh, this doesn't do much for me tbh. I always love the fusion leads, but that ain't enough to save this.

The production on this is so clean it borders on sterile. This album better not be Weightless II.

It's early so maybe it's just a big grower but initially I didn't think that was terribly good, even though I'm a fan of theirs. Seemed kind of all over the place and trying too hard to be jazzy and random, with no direction.

Good to know the first single was just an anomaly and they're back to doing that boring as fuck djun-djun-djun-wank solo fest bullshit they always do.

Not bad. Like this better than the firs single. Still stoked for the release, but I have a feeling it won't be much of a difference or improvement over their previous work.

I do enjoy this, as I would expect from any AAL release at this point, but rhythmically this is actually starting to get towards inaccessible - impressive but not easy to listen to, and that's something they had in spades before for me.

The first single was fucking amazing. This sounds rushed like tosin ran out of time. Maybe he was tempting time?

It's a good track but the production is not so good. Lacks the punchy feeling that even the quieter moments of the last record had. This sort of sounds like it was recorded in a rush and the mix is kind of muddy to me.
