This is just fucking sad, all childhood memories, watching MTV videos with my brothers, Soundgarden was one of the first bands that shaped my musical taste, R.I.P. Chris, too fucking soon.

This is a tremendous loss. Temple of the Dog and Superunknown are, in my humble opinion, two of the greatest albums of all time, with his vocal performance on TOTD being possibly my favorite on any album by any artist. Thank you for the amazing music, Chris. RIP.

I seriously cannot remember being this upset about an artist dying. I've followed his music for over 25 years and have always been impressed by his passion and commitment. He never followed trends, never sounded like anyone else and died with a truly great musical legacy which I am sure will remain unblemished by the passing years.

This one has hit me harder than any other musical death in my lifetime. I was too young when Kurt died, still casual in my grunge listening when Layne died, total non surprise when Scott died, and even losing guys like Lemmy and Bowie doesn't hurt like this one because Soundgarden was such a huge influence on me and my musical tastes, and a band I still listened to nearly every day. For the the first time ever from a celebrity/musician death, I actually shed a few tears today and I just feel like garbage. Doubly so if it was a suicide. It makes you feel hopeless if you too suffer from depression or mental illness, like if even he couldn't overcome it, fuck what chance do the rest of us have?

I usually cringe a bit when this stuff happens and everyone is all up in arms about it. But this one hits hard, especially if it was suicide by hanging no less. Their songs have gotten me through some hard times, so it does affect me on a personal level.Really sad to see.

The only possible thing I can think is he must have been sick, perhaps with something terminal, and wanted to go out on his own terms like the late Robin Williams or Tony Scott. This shit sucks. I literally saw Soundgarden 2 weeks ago in Atlanta. It just makes it more weird for me knowing that he was probably already planning this when I saw him. Decides to play at one of his favorite places to play in Detroit for the final bang, and then go and kill himself immediately after. Imagine being at that show and then maybe before you even go to sleep that night you find out he is dead.

Doesn't surprise me with all of the questions people have, how sudden it was and how unlikely it may seem. People are just shocked more than anything I think, and they can't believe he'd actually do it.

Just to make that clear I don't think he was murdered or Courtney Love murdered him or whatever. It was likely the antidepressants influencing him but I suppose we'll find out. Just sad to think if he hadn't taken too many he may not have done it. A tragic waste of a life.
