clipping. gets Deep 2017-08-23 by hesperus | 4 Comments | Experimental hip-hop group clipping. have released a new song called "The Deep." The song was commissioned for a recent episode of This American Life titled "We Are in the Future," in which show producer Neil Drumming explores Afrofuturism.
"The Deep" is a tribute to electronic duo Drexciya, who based their music around the myth of an underwater civilization populated by the ancestors of pregnant African women thrown overboard from slave ships. The track tells the story of the ocean dwellers rising to the surface and preparing for war in response to the surface world attacking them with seismic air cannons.
