I can dig this
| |
It has a few catchy parts but eh
| |
Copy and paste from the EDT thread:
This has some catchiness to it and I quite like some parts but it's just not what I want from Dimmu, whether that's fair or not. They did promise a more BM-centric sound but it was more like boneless Abrahadabra. It felt very sparse and open. I guess they wanted to leave room for the orchestral bits to breathe, but they did it kind of poorly.
| |
Those youtube comments say it all :
60% Nightwish + 30% Therion + 10% (old) Dimmu Borgir = this.
| |
Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit Underoath and Dimmu in consecutive days. Both's newest album in 8 years and a full-on assault on my teen years.
| |
hardcore lol'ed when those keys came in
| |
This song just makes me want to put on Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny. If they're gonna do ultra polished symphonic black metal, give it some gusto.
| |
They should just cut the first minute of this song. The rest is ok.
| |
"This song just makes me want to put on Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny. If they're gonna do ultra polished symphonic black metal, give it some gusto."
same, but i would hesitate to call them BM anymore tbh
| |
Ho boy the high school me would love this, but I suppose that's what added perspective does to you. I think it'd be easier to accept this if they completely ditched the black metal facade, because that's all it is at this point (they dress like a black metal carnival already); this is to black metal as The Astonishing is to progressive metal. In all honesty, I rather enjoyed this and could see myself adding a track or two from this album to my liked songs on Spotify, but I kept expecting Simone Simons show up in runny face paint at any second.
| |
Pretty enjoyable.
| |
That’s actually not too shabby, better than I was expecting
| |
Mmm... Dimmu Burger
| |
Boneless aye, spineless specifically.
| |
kinda meh.
| |
Sounds a LOT like Ghost if you ask me. I'll still listen to the album, but this sure didn't catch my attention. Drums are way too far in the background of the mix.
| |
Never checked Demon Burger. Where should I start?
| |
Start with two number nines, a number nine large, a number six with extra dip, a number seven, two number forty-fives, one with cheese, and a large soda.
| |
so listen to nine twice before moving to six? Listen to seven, then go back to two again? instructions unclear.
| |
He was giving a fast food chain order
| |
Yeah DB get ur shit together
| |
Wonder if I can get this album yet
| |
that was insultingly okay
| |
what does that mean
| |
that it’s painfully mediocre
| |
Not enough Black Metal. I like harsh vocals. Does this band have any albums that have the symphobic elements but all black metal shrieks?
| |
The more ppl complain Dimmu is not black metal enough anymore, the less black metal they get with every next release lol
guess it's time to start liking them for what they've turned into. then again, perhaps not
| |
Not being black metal is fine as long as they produce quality music...Which is something they forgot how to do
| |
Jesus Christ this is bad
| |
Ye I can confirm the nightwish and therion vibes. If people complained earlier about them selling out, we can now know for sure that they didn't, they just wrote shittier music. they did sell out now
| |
One can hope that the other songs on the album are less arena-ish though
| |

I will agree with that logic when the band stops saying stuff like this:
"the album itself is a tribute to our own history and the Norwegian black metal history."
It's stupid to say that and then move away from the sound of Norwegian black metal.
| |
what does that mean
that from a band as prestigious and experienced as dimmu borgir and with the resources at their disposal it's insulting to behold how 'just okay' it is
| |
Shite, I'll be avoiding this
| |
can barely hear the guitars
this band wasnt relevant for almost two decades
| |
Lame
| |
yep, this sucks.
| |
Makes me wanna dance! Should change their name to Dimmu Dimmu, and Silenoz can be Silenoz LeBon.
| |
garbage, guitars are just lost behind the synths. it's so easy to make awful symphonic bm
| |
To answer Eons' question, I think The Serpentine Offering is what you might want to check out, but I haven't listened to this band in years so God knows if it is how I remember it.

| |
Spiritual Black Dimensions would probably be more Eons speed. I don't remember which album ICS started doing vocals, but I know it was after that album.
| |
He's on SBD and majestically so.
| |
For some reason I thought he didn't start until PEM...shows how much I remember about this band's lineup lol
| |
This might turn out to be even worse than the new Therion
| |
galder is such a clown haha
shit track, shame cause abrahadabra was their only tolerable album so this could have been nice
| |
shittytastepolice would be a more appropriate name
| |
shittytastepolice would be a more appropriate name [2]
I think the track’s alright, sounds better than what was on Abrahadabra at least. Still ain’t nothing that special tho
| |
Where’s Hawks?
| |
shame cause abrahadabra was their only tolerable album
| |
rammstein?
| |
i'm really unsure of who they're trying to please here. i understand that bands sing to the sound of their own tune and all but i can't really imagine this kind of music being fulfilling for even the band.
| |
"shit track, shame cause abrahadabra was their only tolerable album so this could have been nice"
Lmaooooooo
| |
"can't really imagine this kind of music being fulfilling for even the band"
Well, by DCA they were supposedly injecting strong alcohol into their veins. Alcoholism explains it all well.
| |
Hopefully this track is the most over the top and orchestral one of the bunch because I really enjoyed all the non orchestral parts of this song. Reminded me a little of the old school dimmu
| |
This is decent enough
| |
well, their last great album was Death Cult Armageddon IMO. They did release several good songs in the following years, but the last two albums were definitely "meh" as a whole, especially Abrahadabra. The new track is pretty mediocre, but let's wait for the rest of the album.
| |
had to pause at 9 seconds because this video is hysterical
| |
that guitarist is having a lot of fun
| |
Galder always has a lot of interesting expressions.
| |
yo this lowkey slaps
| |
horrible
| |
those keyboards are really distracting
| |
I think I like Stormblaast the best, and I think the re-release is better than the original
| |
Stormblast re-release rules but def not better than the original for me.
And the more I listen to this track the more I dig it tbh. Better/more memorable than anything on Abrahadabra imo.
| |
Yeah it does grow on you after a couple listens that's for sure. Still I hope that's the poppy single and the rest of hte songs are less like that. Kinda proved true with Gateways, though not entirely I guess
| |
for me it's mixed because my least favourite part about the song is the chorus but i quite like everything else. the melodic leads are great but man, that goofy choir chorus kills the momentum whenever it tries to grow on me.
| |
The problem is that those melodic riffs of theirs are rehashes of melodies they played on earlier albums. Not as glaring as in "Dimmu Borgir" for example, which basically ripped off kings of the carnival creation
| |
hmmm, i didn't notice anything like that at all, but i need to relisten
i'm with noctus - some parts of this actually really resonated with me, but as a whole it's disappointing.
| |
It's just boring, nothing special here at all
| |
Dimmu have totally been ripping their own earlier stuff throughout their entire career. It went as early as ripping off a riff from dodsferd in devil's path
| |
They are pretty good at giving zero fucks, though.
| |

new single
it's better
| |
it has better parts
both are, as a whole, not very good
| |
This album is shaping up to be what I'd play if Dead Space were resurrected with the Doom 2016 treatment.
| |
Stylistically that video is pretty cool
| |
