His peak was XXX without question. All his best features are from that 2011-2012 era as well. Old and AE are great too, but at the end of the day they're just XXX with a bigger budget. Change my mind. I hope he challenges himself a little more this time around.

The penis jokes in xxx are a satirical take on hip hop tropes and music in general. The first half of xxx is entirely tongue in cheek while still having the benefit of actually being good music. It's awesome. Yall playin

Idk I wouldn’t say he’s being tongue and cheek/satirical with the vulgarity on XXX. I’ve always taken the first half of XXX (particularly “I Will” through “Adderall Admiral”) as a representation of his out of control lifestyle, like a long-form “Die Like a Rockstar”. He finally crashes at the end of admiral and we get the real Danny from “DNA” through the end of the album rapping about real things.

i mean, i feel AE is better as a whole, but 2nd half of OLD just bangs hard.

I always saw xxx that way (first half). Second half is him being serious though. Lie4 has all the bravado of a cash flash song while also having the comedy of the source of his income being from tax returns. If that doesn't scream parody idk what does. Radio song is a critique on mainstream success. Bruiser brigade pokes fun on rappers' self made crews. Blunt after blunt recounts the excess of drug use. All are still bangers too which just makes them that much better.

Oh yeah definitely agree with you about Lie4 and Radio Song, but I think they're outliers (as far as the first half of the album is concerned) in terms of songs with a purpose larger than telling us how hard he parties and/or how great of a rapper he is.

It could be one or the other for all I know. Regardless, still a great album and I'm always pumped for new Danny joints.

Yeah I love XXX to bits. Hoping Danny finally matches it with this new one.
