Twisted Tongues has a great atmosphere even if the song itself is a little predictable. Escape from Los Angeles did almost nothing for me. I'm still excited for a new album though. AFI rarely disappoints.

Twisted Tongues is incredible, someone over in the missing man thread pointed out it sounds weirdly circa survive influenced. I am pumped for the album. Escape was fine, but it was strange mixing the more punk vocal delivery with the more sugary, pop instrumentals. Hoping this is their best lp release since Crash Love. They have been in a bit of a slump for me other than the missing man ep.

I love these! Great mix of Crash Love and All Hallows EP. The pop side finally meets the punk side, but doesn't feel like all the crappy punk-pop out there. Adam killed it on drums.

Twisted Tongues is too repetitive imo, at least based upon first listen. I don't like Escape from L.A., it sounds way too derivative and like everything else on alt rock radio nowadays. I don't find the first two singles off of this upcoming album to be interesting enough for me to buy the new album. They haven't interested me since Burials. I even prefer White Offerings and Snowcats off of The Blood Album over the first two singles for this album and I thought The Blood Album was their worst album. I am not excited...

I thought The Blood Album was their worst album [2]
This part of your statement is correct!
|
| |
Blood Album was so bad
|
| |
Escape From LA is cool but it lacks some oomf
|
| |
Meh. Musically I think Twisted Tongues was pretty good, could've used some juicier guitar riffs. The lyrics were so repeated so many times it feels like whoever's writing them has grown very tired of doing so.
|
| |
I put these 2 right behind Back Into The Sun and Break Angels which are becoming borderline top 15 AFI songs for me atm.
Escape From LA is so fucking fun, I love the atmosphere and Davey's delivery. what it built to could have been bigger but still good.
Twisted Tongues is missing something, whether that be an expanded chorus, some harsher vocals, or idk, something to make it HUGE, BUT it's still great. Chorus is fun, verse is honestly phenomenal, and instrumentally it is by far one of their best.

Twisted Tongues definitely needed a moment where it really exploded, but overall it's a fantastic track. Some of their best instrumental work in recent memory, agreed.
|
| |
twisted tongues got them p/r undertones
|
| |
AFI signed to Rise? Since when?
|
| |
Since now
|
| |
as much as i love AFI they havent overly impressed me for a long while now tbh
|
| |
need album details asap
|
| |
"Break Angels which are becoming borderline top 15 AFI songs for me atm."
it really is crazy how catchy that song is, this is alright, will check out the album when it drops defo

I miss Black Sails/Drowning era of this band so much. Last album I heard was Decemberunderground. These two tracks are pretty cool though. Actually digging Los Angeles quite a bit
|
| |
Both singles sounds fine and way too different though Blood album was the same...
|
| |
@combustion I highly recommend looking into the Missing Man ep from 2018, probably the best thing they have done since DU. Crash Love had some great songs especially with the B-sides, but quite a few misses as well.
|
| |
the only almost miss on Crash Love is I'm Trying Very Hard To Be Here and it's still pretty aight
|
| |
@Grey I know you and I think that, but someone who has not listened to the band since DU is likely going to find CL more problematic than us super-fans :-)
|
| |
the lack of love for Burials is so sad :C
|
| |
@Nikkolae, to be fair, I really dig some of the singles (17 Crimes, Conductor) and even Sinking Night and to a lesser extent I Hope You Suffer ... unfortunatley I do not even remember much else from the album. It is good, but I dont think it is necessarily better than anything post-Jade joining the band aside from Blood which was their only real clunker for me.
|
| |
Burials has grown on me a lot over the years. some whatever tracks but overall it's a really cool album.
|
| |
Twisted Tongues is at least much better than Missing Man was. Escape from LA sounds like a weak The Killers track
|
| |
but Missing Man is perfffffff
and woah Killers vibes are in Escape From LA but i def love it more than every Killers songs i've heard which is admittedly not many but i've always liked em
