Yea this is rad news, song is good too
| |
neat to see they're back after so long
| |
I'm really torn on this.
All the aspects that made Genghis Tron great are either non-existent or negligible at best on this track. Their signature vocals are entirely gone and replaced with bewilderingly hyper-generic cleans. The eerie synths pretty much make one cursory, fleeting, background appearance (which is probably still the best part of the song). The spasmodic drum machine percussion is replaced with what could largely be mistaken for an acoustic performance (is it???). The guitar work is almost there at times but mostly just makes me yearn for Board Up the House. If you listen really really closely you can hear that it's Genghis Tron, but just sitting back this could be literally any other competent mathcore/metalcore/etc band.
It's okay, but it's not the same, and what made Genghis Tron special is that they were... well... special. Irreplicable. But this on the other hand is just a cut above par.
At least it is better than the new HORSE songs
| |
wow I didn't think this news would ever come. hopefully the rest of the album is more interesting though
| |
the album art doesn't bode well on the topic of originality either
| |
couldn't agree more pots. i'm glad they came back but i almost feel insulted that they're calling themselves genghis tron. remove mookie's vocals and the programmed drums and it's just simply not genghis tron. i think the vocalist is the dude from the armed (?) but the vocals are just plain boring and turn the band into something completely different.
sadly, you're right about the new HORSE songs, too... heartbreaking.
| |
oh wow is it just straight up not mookie? wtf. i just assumed he was getting too old to scream lol.
| |
resurrecting gt without mookie is jokes tbqh
| |
and it looks like they did actually hire a live drummer
| |
dude from baptists did the drums here yeah
| |
Good song but idk, something feels off...
| |
gee i wonder what
| |
Song wasnt the best.
| |
"dude from baptists did the drums here yeah"
ah yes, Vancouver metal, a remarkably unremarkable scene
| |
Miss the screams, but this is still pretty good.
| |
isnt this new vocalist in the armed or something - oh i see someone else mentioned that already. really dont get why this isnt just a new band with how absurdly different it is
| |
probably cuz riding the coattails of GT's legacy garners more hype
| |
im kinda surprised Mookie (presumably) gave his blessing on this tbh, he seemed like a bit of a narcissistic prick when I met him.
| |
Opening sounds like Astronoid, I'm kinda into it. Then again I never checked their discog.
| |
yeah i agree that it doesn't sound quite like genghis tron
still I actually really dig this
| |
Genghis Tron got old.
| |
This shit rules
| |
Yegh these comments make me not even want to bother
How about they don't tarnish the legacy of Genghis Tron instead
| |
literally my first thought when I heard of this was "but Genghis Tron is one of the only metal adjacent bands I ever really loved that didn't go on to tarnish their legacy" lol
| |
Wow they’re back? This is a band I thought would never come back
| |
Well, they didn't really.
| |
do they have the drummer from a textbook tragedy
| |
the song is alright not what i was hoping for
| |
"do they have the drummer from a textbook tragedy" MAN that name takes me back many years hahahahahahahahhaahahahahha.
| |
No kidding
| |
not every reunion is going to be like Daughters
hopefully the rest of the album will be cooler with that said
| |
unexpectedly boring
| |
Y’all dumb as hell 😂
| |
Gonna poop ur pants?
| |
'therollingstoned'
sm0k
| |
Lots of hate here, somewhat understandably, but I actually really dug this. And for underground bands, when it's nearly impossible to make a living doing what you love, is it really the worst thing in the world to use the name of your most successful group when two-thirds of the members are still in it?
| |
Yes
| |
Worse than murder
| |
This is alright, I might enjoy this a lot more in the context the album.
| |
Well that's what you get for being excited about something, think I'll put Board Up the House on hopefully that'll make me feel better about all this.
| |
This rules
| |
im 90% sure i'll enjoy this more in context. thankfully we don't have to wait too long
| |
If nothing else this remind me that Board Up was awesome, haven’t listened to that in about ten years!
| |
Board Up The House is still an incredible record. So happy they did a repress last year
| |
The vinyl for this is pretty gorgeous at least
| |
glad i read through the negative comments before i listened to the song to see y'all are dorks this rules.
| |
So this is just kind of a new The Armed album which I guess I’m ok with
| |
It's different but I dig this
| |
good point, pencil
| |
I said it somewhere else but this is Genghis Tron. Board up the house spend a lot of time with build up and payoff, and this sounds crafted to the extent that one can expect that whatever comes next is going to be very heavy. Granted, might not grind as hard or at all, who knows. But I'm genuinely excited about their sound. It's so cool to hear them back. I for one, LOVE the drum performance and production. It's so heavy in its own right.

well said. i miss the screams and ultra programmed drums as anyone. but this is remarkably similar considering the change in modern music trends and that its been a decade.
props to them for doing this again
| |
"but this is remarkably similar considering the change in modern music trends and that its been a decade."
If anything the current musical climate is more conducive to what they were doing over a decade ago. They were ahead of their time. This, however, is not ahead of its time.
Its still decent and will be checking the whole alb tho
| |
people hungry for more 'board up the house' should check out 'only love' by the armed. it's a really good evolution of electronic hardcore.
| |
“MAN that name takes me back many years hahahahahahahahhaahahahahha.”
is that a yes or
| |
@spec a quick google confirms that yes it is the textbook tragedy drummer which is kinda cool tbh
| |
effin sweet
| |
he's no drum machine
| |
he’s pretty close tho
| |
I'm digging this quite a bit.
After reading Pots' thoughts I think I was quite taken aback at how pleasingly relentless the drums were in the first half of the track, and I don't mind a slightly more subdued direction.
I can't see the entire album being like this but I'm definitely more intrigued to check it out than I was before hearing this.
| |
growing a bit i could for sure be sixteen and drink a bottle of cough syrup while listening to this
| |
I could get over the live drummer thing pretty easily (this dude has chops) if the vocal replacement wasn't so awful. I think that's really the main gripe I have.
| |
the drummer is the dude from A textbook tragedy? jokes
that band was one of the few good bands from that scene grind scene
| |
Yea
| |
no mort, jokes is kidcrash
| |
very funny Steak : )
| |
growing a bit i could for sure be sixteen and drink a bottle of cough syrup while listening to this [2]

Nick is a friend of a friend of a friend, I was really surprised to hear they got him on board to drum! Song sounds great IMHO but it doesn't sound like Ghengis Tron. Not bad though. Interested in the rest of the album.
| |
Fuck, I was excited to check this out and now I probably won't bother lol. That drummer does rule though.
| |
"Nick is a friend of a friend of a friend, I was really surprised to hear they got him on board to drum! Song sounds great IMHO but it doesn't sound like Ghengis Tron. Not bad though. Interested in the rest of the album."
tell him to do a reunion show with textbook because a guy on sputnikmusic said to do it
| |
this gives me big the armed - only love vibes tbqh
| |
getting curious about this armed band
| |
i don’t listen to pop music
(im an opeth fan actually)
| |
im not surprised its giving people The Armed vibes cos one of the new members was in The Armed i think. the new vocalist (Tony) is the Armed old drummer/did some vocals? hard to find out much cos The Armed are one of those 'anonymous revolving door' bands
| |
the more I listen to this track the better it gets. fuck yeah GT
| |
ya i agree
| |
"tell him to do a reunion show with textbook because a guy on sputnikmusic said to do it"
I'll try lol
| |
Still holding my breath for The Blood Brothers reunion
| |
Both singles are like...nearly good. If it wasnt GT id be like. Hmmm thats not too bad. Might check it later. Maybe. And wouldnt...but still...
| |
There's another?
| |
hahahah oh no, Its the same one, Just one was the video and one wasnt hahah oops. Its just played on YT
Says a lot actually.
'Theyre a bit samey to me ya know!'
| |
Uh okayyy?
| |
Shut up
| |
Lmao
| |
this is fucking bad. i've only heard cloak of love - when tf did they become this generic sounding?
| |
'when tf did they become this generic sounding'
well theyve been away for 13 years so like since a few days ago when this dropped?
| |
When they became an entirely new band after a 13 year hiatus
| |
so their other stuff is worth checking? i genuinely didn't know if this is what they sounded like pre-breakup, didn't read the thread
| |
Board Up The House is one of the few albums I really loved in my metalling years as a wee teenage lad that I still look back upon with much admiration. Haven't listened in a long time but yes, it is worth checking.
| |
Def recommend the armed’s latest record pots, I have absolutely no way of knowing if you’ll like it or not but I love it
| |
and i bought all the cd’s from pots that he is now embarrassed to admit that he listened to
| |
a lotta pop punk hoooo boy also the entire lostprophets discog
| |
XD
| |
Hey fuck off you don't need to embellish the truth to make that collection embarrassing to me all you need to do is mention how many metalcore cds I had
| |
ya there was a shit load of the color morale i forgot about that
| |
Fucking slander
| |
The Color Morale slapped on their first two
| |
this dudes brother was a beast back in the day
| |
this band is alright this song is alright hmm
| |
woah i live in poughkeepsie
| |
first album sux
second album had a great opener but the rest sux
third album was pretty good *shrug*
next one the vocals sounded like a chicken birthing a cow or some shit
next one was really mediocre and boring which is even worse
| |
how does chicken give birth to a cow and what does that sound like
| |
spec I will fight you I'm coming rn
| |
"how does chicken give birth to a cow and what does that sound like"
like any vocal section off of their fourth album (i think thats the one its blue and white)
| |
"spec I will fight you I'm coming rn"
find me cunt ill be in a HOPE hoodie
| |
what if he comes when its warmer out
| |

| |

| |
i dunno man i've already ruined this thread lets take it somewhere else
| |

| |
I'll come through with a merchnow shirt you would see at the end of a rise records youtube vid

| |
its a city in dutchess county ny on the coast of the hudson river 50 miles due north from nyc
| |
I'm honestly surprised this didn't get more love from the og fans. I feel like I listened to a different song. I've jammed it like 10 times, and I think it's just excellent. Super heavy.
| |
why would og fans love this? it doesnt sound much like Cloak of Love and only vaguely sounds like Board Up The House
| |
I don't know, considering this as a follow up to board up the house, this screams potential. I love the new drums, and the guitar I loved from board up the house is here.
| |
Its mostly the vocals
| |
Its mostly the vocals [2]
| |
It's been 13 years since Board Up The House, and people, let alone bands, change over time, along with their music.
Just saying.
| |
Excited for this.
| |
me too, I'm very drawn to this song. I can't get the riffs and rhythms out of my head.
| |
"It's been 13 years since Board Up The House, and people, let alone bands, change over time, along with their music.
Just saying."
This self evident comment has enlightened me and made me realize that it's good, in fact, and that I love it
| |
the flow of time is distorted
| |
i personally dont believe that people or bands change and i dont believe their music does either
| |
The synth work is phenomenal, especially on the newest single. The building parts are all there and song writing is very similar to Ergot (Relief) from Board up the House. Tons of potential and I am eagerly awaiting this release.
