Mayhem Announce New EP 2021-05-10 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 22 Comments | Iconic Norwegian black metallers Mayhem return this year with a new EP called Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando with additional material from the Daemon session, including a homage to bands that laid the foundation for what was to come. The EP will be released on July 9th via Century Media Records.
In addition to four cover versions, a previously unreleased track called 'Voces Ab Alta' is featured on the EP, which continues the musical journey alongside 'Black Glass Communion' and 'Everlasting Dying Flame', which were used as bonus tracks for the 2019 album Daemon. The band also recruited Billy Messiah and Maniac, who took over vocal performances on two songs.
"I always had some punk influences," says Attila. "I guess it comes from my childhood when we were constantly looking for more extreme music. That’s how I discovered Dead Kennedys, GBH, The Exploited, Sex Pistols, U.K. Subs, Discharge, Rudimentary Peni and so on, in the early 80’s, alongside heavy metal. But then I discovered Venom, that was a game changer!"
Necrobutcher further adds: "We got some extra time in the studio recording the Daemon album two years ago, all band members were asked to punch in two cover tracks for some extra material. I chose songs by Deathstrike (The Truth) and Death (Evil Dead) which were both used as the bonus tracks on the album. My other contribution was to bring in two old members because of their obvious connection with punk: Maniac on the Dead Kennedys track and Billy (Messiah) on the Discharge track and some of the others."
Tracklist:
1. Voces Ab Alta
2. Black Glass Communion
3. Everlasting Dying Flame
4. In Defense Of Our Future (Discharge cover)
5. Hellnation (Dead Kennedys cover)
6. Only Death (Rudimentary Peni cover)
7. Commando (Ramones cover)

| | | Mayhem career is very inconsistent, but im always excited to listen anything they put on. Even when i know that i will get dissapointed.
| | | Esoteric and Daemon were both near masterpieces so I have no reason to believe they will let me down here.
| | | all mayhem rules besides deathcrush
| | | All mayhem rules. No exceptions
| | | necrobutcher is also on his way to kill punk with these covers i guess
| | | the title is very lol but should be cool
| | | @zay: they call him necrobutcher because he butchers dead genres
| | | deathcrush was rough as fuck and it was still amazing for its time, I am actually quite happy with Attila's work with Mayhem
| | | I prefer Maniac over Attila on record, vice versa at live show.
| | | Tormentor owns [37]

"Esoteric and Daemon were both near masterpieces so I have no reason to believe they will let me down here."
Agreed, the only thing keeping Esoteric from being my potential fave Mahem album is the overly dry and minimalist production. If they had used a more middle ground approach between Esoteric and Ordo (like Daemon), that album would have been even better.
They are not unknown to remix/master and re-release albums whose production has grown dated, so theres always hope for a rerelease one day.

| | | It has the same vibe as the band's last album, as expected. I love it.
| | | Yup this is exactly what I wanted
| | | Eh kinda sounds like a DMDS b side
| | | Maniac and Billy said a few words about the EP, and you can hear some new stuff in the background playin':
