New Atmosphere. Oh, Word?

2021-07-21 by ConcubinaryCode | 28 Comments
Hip-hop duo Atmosphere have released a new single titled "Woes" coming off their new anticipated album, Word?.

With the music video directed by Roxana Baldovin, the song incorporates a more relaxed sound from Atmosphere's last release, "The Day Before Halloween".

The album is supposed to be more of a throwback to the earlier years of Atmosphere while retaining the maturity, introspection, and playfulness of their more recent output.

We'll also see an extensive cast of guest features including the late MF DOOM, Aesop Rock, Evidence, Sa-Roc, Lateef the Truthspeaker, Nikki Jean, Musab, Muja Messiah, Nino Bless, Anwar HighSign, BlackLiq and Haphduzn.

Check out the single, "Woes" below.

Ngl made an article just for the title. Plus newer atmosphere needs more ears.

i've enjoyed most recent atmosphere. there's only a couple duds in their discography. southsiders and family sign are their weakest imo. the most recent one didn't seem that serious.

That was fucking abysmal. The production on the last album was cool if you can overlook how especially terrible of an emcee slug is nowadays. But this is just all around awful.

I liked Whenever. Halloween was alright. This is kind of eh to me.

Halloween was pretty cool, and I thought the two before it were solid enough. I'm not expecting anything pre-lemons tier from them really anymore though. They're just old men now. Also anyone jam the new dts?

🍋 is probably the last worthwhile album from these dudes tbh. Actually no it is.

Vastly prefer Atmosphere back when Slug had a little edge to him. Now the dude just seems corny and a little bit lame.

I miss the Slug we got in Deep Puddle Dynamics and The Dynospectrum. He peaked with God Loves Ugly and it's been downhill ever since.

Lemons is a great album too. Has a few bum tracks but the highs are pretty comparable for me.

i think it's absurd for people to expect a 50 year old man not to rap about 50 year old man things.

"hes part african american just putting that out there (and norwegian and irish, all sorts of shit)"

I thought part native too, but I might be wrong. Scoot was probably just saying that white people are his main demographic.

It's not just slug, all his contemporaries are pretty in line in terms of substance. Aesop, POS, DTS it's just their thing now. Slug isn't the same person he was in the 2000s, he actively changed his music once he had a kid, and got over his frustrations with his relationships with women in his life. He's happier now and if that results in not as exciting music that's fine. It doesn't take away from their golden age. It's just a different perspective

Check out the Halloween album bloc. The beats are pretty different for them and it's an easy listen. I kinda wish they explored the sound more tbb
