I'll temper expectations, I've been consistently disappointed with their output since Year of the Black Rainbow. These guys are at their best when they pair proggy song structures, shredding, and poppy but heartfelt melodies. Just not a fan of the theatricality and declining technicality and ability to write earworms. They're doing them, and that's great, and most musicians change their preferences and the type of material they want to / can play as they age, but I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

If you missed The Afterman records you should go back and check those.
There's a bit of everything on them, some great variety which was always one of Coheed's strengths on their first few albums.
Check out Domino The Destitute, Gravity's Union, Sentry The Defiant and The Homecoming which should give you a nice slice of modern Coheed.

these sounds kind of promising. that lead line in the second video does not fit AT ALL tho sounds like it's in a completely different key

I liked it for the most part, and it was a welcome return to the concept after TCBTS.
Something awesome about Ascension/Descension is I enjoy them from front to back like their earlier stuff. I never listen to Unheavenly Creatures in full as there's too much filler even early on in the album imo.
This one has a few less tracks so hoping there's a bit more quality in there.

Vaxis slaps but these singles are not inspiring confidence in the sequel.

It’s Coheed so I hope they do. Although I’m not warm to Coheed in recent years…will always be hopeful. Here’s to a new Coheed and Cambria album. 🍻

Glad it’s not 15 songs. Upset there’s no vinyl preorder. Is there really a market for deluxe CD box sets in 2022…?

The first Vaxis was great, albeit too long. Most likely this one will be the same.

Sounds like the end of the preceding song leading into it.

that interlude in Naianasha highlights how nice Claudio's vox can be. kinda like when The Dear Hunter lets off the gas a little and Casey has more room to breathe.

Shoulders was a dud the first time I heard it but this time it kinda worked for me. Eppard is killing it, at least

Don't really understand the hate for Shoulders. Honestly think it hits harder than anything from Unheavenly Creatures. It's nice to hear the guys let loose and bring back the energy again.
