Gal Costa has passed away 2022-11-09 by ZIG | 9 Comments | The Brazilian singer Gal Costa has died, at the age of 77. The news of her death was advanced by Folha de S. Paulo, citing the singer's agent.
Born in 1945 as Maria da Graça (Gracinha to her closest friends), she adopted the stage name Gal Costa on which she built her career, which began with a duet album with Caetano Veloso: Domingo, 1967.
One of the most famous Brazilian singers to emerge in the 1960s, she collaborated with Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, and Gilberto Gil (os Doce Bárbaros) and also on the record Tropicália ou Panis et Circensis, one of the fundamental records of Brazilian popular music. Gracinha launched herself in Salvador in the 1960s, having impressed even João Gilberto, the father of bossa nova.
Gal Costa has been a revolution of voices and customs in Brazilian music since her emergence on the national scene in that decade.
