BMTH release Darkside

2023-10-13 by GregoriusV | 42 Comments
The one and only Bring Me The Horizon have released a new single entitled "Darkside".

In this track the band once again leans into nu-metal territory, wearing their Linkin Park affection on their sleeve, much similar to their 2020 track "1x1".

Check out "Darkside":

Definitely see what they mean by Nu metal adjacent/influenced. I can't describe it adequately, but it does have some elements for sure.
Not a bad song either

So are they done releasing albums or EP's and just doing singles now or what?

^ they were gonna have a new release this year, but postponed it to keep working on it.

I’ve been curious about the streaming singles thing and google brought me to this Reddit comment (among others):

“ Didn't Memphis May Fire mention something about releasing a ton of singles as it's really the only way to stay relevant streaming wise? They put out like nine singles for Remade in Misery, but that makes sense with the point brought up. It keeps said artist in rotation by streaming algorithms. Release 10 new songs at once and the algorithm will mix in a couple of them after release; but release one song a month for ten months and it'll put every song in rotation, as it's gonna promote each new release”

lmao I was so lowkey annoyed when my roomate, who is my age, not a baby, asked non-sarcastically, "Who even listens to albums anymore?"

uh, I don't know, THE WHOLE WORLD EXCEPT FOR TOP-40 AND RAP ENJOYERS?

Unfortunately we are all in the minority predominantly listening to full albums. The move from CDs to MP3s started a seismic shift in how people listen to music thats only gotten bigger with streaming.

@MoM I have read similar things. Artists should be moving to shorter tracks too since the pay is by stream. Sad stuff when the business model drives artistic decisions, but the system we are operating in yall.

@Feather
That’s already happening too. Just took a quick look at Spotify’s All New Rock playlist and most of the songs so far have been under 3 minutes

@MoM not surprised.

Ragging on a favorite band of mine here but whatever: AFIs last album rollout had 7 of the songs released as singles over like a 8 month period and all 11 tracks feel kinda half baked partly because over half of them are sub 3 minutes.

Let's be honest here, was this band ever really GOOD? Sure they had some good songs on Sempiternal but it was an average album overall.

Eh. They are always hit and miss. Kudos for them trying new formulas, even though they fall short more often than not. Post Human was a hell of a fun ride though, wish they'd continue that style.

I really enjoyed that song, actually my favorite of the new EP's songs. I'm not a fan of how eDgY they're trying to be with this release, though. Or rather, I'm not a fan of their new brand of edginess (because they've always been super edgy.)

To be fair, song lengths being shortened dates back to the early days of vinyl and radio play too. IT went out the window with CD's but bands are definitely swinging back to the 3 minute slabs made for easy consumption.
