RIP Melanie Safka 2024-01-24 by Cyan isn't a shade of blue. | 7 Comments | 70s folk pop star Melanie Safka (best known by her mononym ‘Melanie’) died yesterday at the age of 76 (January 23rd, 2024.)The cause of her death has not been revealed.
Melanie was best known for her hits “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” (1970) and “Brand New Key” (1971), the latter of which hit #1 on the Hot 100.
Just before her death, she recorded a double album of cover songs that feature covers of Depeche Mode, David Bowie, The Moody Blues, Nine Inch Nails, and more.
