Ween is:
Gene Ween
Dean Ween

(Both members play instruments, and write and arrange the songs. Other people help out with things like drums and keyboards, most notably Andrew Weiss)

Ween is so many things. Some call it plain retarded, some call it genius, and it is usually one or the other. I like the band because of their musical versatility. One song could be a serious ballad, the next could be a ballad about anti-depressant drugs, the next could be a pure insane intstrumental, the next prog, the next country. There is no rules with Ween. They do what they want, are constantly changing and experimenting. No two albums sound the same. But all in all, it Ween is pretty funny. The first time I heard them, I thought "Are they serious? This must cause be joke band, or something like Tenacious D." But I still liked it, and later found out that they are indeed a real band, with some great albums.

Quebec is my favorite Ween album, because aqain of it's versatility. Some fans find it to be quite boring at times and don't like it, but I don;t mind the slower songs. It is musically their best album in my opinion, and there is still some crazy stuff on here too. Listen to something like the instrumental part of "Happy Colored Marbles", or "The F**ked Jam", and you'll know what I mean. Even the "boring" slower songs have some pretty funny lyrics, but are serious at the same time.

Some songs... (there's 15, and I'm lazy, so here are my favs"

"It's Gonna Be A Long Night"
This song definitley reminds me of Motorhead. That kind of raw rock, but at the same time almost party music, with rough vocals. Probabaly the most rocking song on the album. With lyrics like "You bring the razor blade, I'll bring the speed," it's a crazy song about a crazy night. I really enjoy this song. 5/5

"Zoloft"
I can't tell if this song is serious or just funny, but it doesn't really matter. Probably actually both. "Gimme that z-o-l-o-f-t, no longer pissed, you don't bother me." Haha, great lyric. A song about anti-depressants, and it'd quite mellow, almost dreamy. I like the keyboards on this song. (By the way, there is three of them.) 4/5

"So Many People In The Neighborhood"
One of three really crazy songs on the album, and I love everyone of them. You just have to listen to this song to get it. With a couple great keyboard and bass riffs, and synthesized vocals, it's just awesome. 4.5/5

"Tried And True"
A serious song, I think? I really love the decending acoustic and sitar guitars in this song. Some people probably find this one of the boring songs on the album, but I really like it, and it's one of the best songs on the album, if only musically. "Let me rest in time while I blow your mind." Huh? Sweet! 4/5

"Happy Colored Marbles"
Oh, this song just rules. Pure nonsence lyrics, I think, that are awesome. The vocals are great, and so is that keyboard. But the best part of the song is the last instrumental part. The song goes from a super happy, almost ADHD song to this insane ending. Scared the f out of me the first time I heard it with my headphones on. Some people don't like it, but I don't see how you can't, especially if you are a Ween fan. 5/5

"Chocolate Town"
A nice song, with yet again, serious yet funny lyrics. If you weren't paying attention, you probably would find it boring, but the lyrics are hilarious. Typical awesome Ween. 4/5

"The F**ked Jam"
Whoa, that was f**ked. Uhh, 4/5, 'cause it's cool.

"If You Could Save Yourself (You'd Save Us All)"
The last three songs are Ween's version of prog rock. Almost sound like something by Pink Floyd. I do like the last three songs, but I think one really good one would have been enough. I like this song the most out of the three, and it's a good album finisher. 4/5

I'd reccomend this album to alternative music fans, as well as rock fans that like experimental music. Or anyone who is open to new stuff.

Is this a good first album to be introduced to them? I see this one for cheap all the time. Good review.

Since they never sound the same twice, I guess almost any album would be as good of an introduction as any. Like I said, some people say that Quebec is their most boring because of the number of slower accoustic/keyboard songs. But if you're like me, and like that stuff anyway, sure you'll probably enjoy it.

Do these guys have a greatest hits or a live album with all they're best songs? I've been thinking of getting into them.

The Mollusk is a great starting point because it's probably their most accessible album. Actually all of their albums sound completely different, I don't think they have a greatest hits album.
