Review Summary: Fly my Ravens

Moments exist when the greatness of soul exceeds artistic perfection. When the inspiration overlaps the misery of material means. When artist and audience become one.

By borrowing ideas both from the tales of Conan and the Skandinavian mythology, the artist Quorthon weaves the concept of a heroic quest, through material hardships, painful elements and personal sacrifices. In order to advance, the hero, penetrated from his rage, goes through transmutating stages, which are presented symbolically by the artist. Each step requires a sacrifice. Each development presupposes that something else will remain behind.

The musical virtuosity does not impress. The deposit of soul, however, overlaps any lack of training. The production maybe elementary, the atmosphere, on the contrary, compelling. The compositions are memorable, the muse touched upon the artist and he, in his own turn, passed the flame to the listeners/participants in this undertaking. It’s one of the few tokens where the simplicity of the recording procedure, reveals the emotional depth of the artist. An artist who is not only already successfully put to the test, but most importantly, mature.

So What if the distorting effect sounds nebulous. “I’ ll throw my eyes into the lake” and everything will be clear as crystal. So What if vocal imperfections exist. “The Ravens” fly and transmit the internal suffering into hope and simultaneously into the worryingly expected, but at the same time, acceptable end. So What if there is a lack of material means. “The woodwoman” will give me all that I need. With the suitable trade… I will give my heart, but I will gain eternity. The “Gods of Thunder, of Wind and of Rain” will attend my final hour…

A monument of epicness. A milestone of inspiration. An achievement by an enormous artist. He gave us so many, by using so few. This is a case of (obligatory) austerity in the means and exemplary pluralism in the result.

This review is disjointed, nonsensical to the point of pretentiousness at times, and hyperbolic to the
point of completely contradicting your rating (particularly in your closing paragraph, in which you
make it sound like it was made for the gods)

What the hell does any of this mean?

You were fast to vote, but probably not so fast in understanding much. Maybe if you actually listen to it, you will commune. Blood on ice, maybe a 6/5 for me, but i learned in my life, how to distinguish personal preferences from cold ratings. Thanx for the comments, good day to everyone and listen to this!

You're right, the points you attempt to make in this review completely elude me... Probably because
they don't make sense. Even your comment to me was pretentious. I will 'commune'?

Seriously, you are making very little sense with both your comment and review. This album is indeed great, but what you're saying is a bit much.

It makes little sense? Or am i saying a bit much? If i'm saying a bit much, then it makes sense after all... Isn't it? Anyway, it's just my point of view, i don't get all this. If you find this pretentious(!), then what about some CC reviews that exist in this site? Come on, just enjoy this album which we all agree should be given the effort. That's my final comment, i won't be dragged into pointless negativism. Some people here spend over too much time in this "sport" (i'm not referring to any of you in particular). It's something i never do, trying to find "flaws" in other peoples' efforts. Unless, it's something that its actually really really weak written and has no argument. Cheers, Marbled King out!

Lol listen, man, you can't go around posting reviews on a site which so clearly integrates
constructive feedback and allows others to weigh in on the review's merit (ie:"was this review well-
written") without opening yourself to justifiable ridicule when you post nonsensical crap. I don't
know why people fall back on the 'I'm just posting because I enjoy the music' argument. There already
exists another review of this with plenty of discussion, you could just as easily discuss the music
there. But if you insist on writing, don't you want to improve? What's the point of doing anything in
life if you don't learn from your mistakes and better yourself? Call it pointless negativism all you
want, it's better than showering you with trite positivism for the sake of it.

Negged so hard.

Pretentious, short, and pointless review. Also riddled with typos.

It's always surprising when I see a pretty good writer call a really shitty review 'great'
