You know, people have very different tastes. Some like avocado with their breakfast. I can’t tell you an easier way to ruin a bacon and egg roll then smearing that green baby poo on it. Why do you do
this? That is neither here nor there. If you like green baby poo on your bacon and egg roll who am I to judge? I’m sure you don’t like the idea of a sausage roll on a roll but it’s my quintessential cuisine for drunken nights when the local kebab shop is closed.
That’s Outrageous! are surely a band that a majority will scoff at. They will hear the autotuned cleans and think of Devin (Oliver) and that is fair. The whole album could have fit right into that era of I See Stars before they dropped ‘New Demons’ when they were still finding their feet, admittingly ISS dropped off after that album like no bodies business..
‘Psycho’ despite the bands best attempts doesn’t break new ground. Cliché’s run rampant throughout, not just in the lyrical department but the music is much of the same repeatedly. I happen to like this style though, so variance is not what I came here for. I came here for silly breakdowns mixed with autotuned filled trance beats and this is exactly what I got. I’m sure that sounds to most people, what avocado on a Bacon and Egg roll sounds to me but, it is what it is.
Both vocalists are the centerpoint of the band. They weave in and out of each other rather nicely and don’t stick to the standard unclean verses and clean choruses. Johns uncleans can get brutal and his moments do elevate them above the plethora of other electronicore bands of this time. Toms cleans are heavily autotuned, which is exactly the
point. He fits in well with the tracks, and he handles the synths. Tom is really the part of the band that is going to drive people away – see ‘Stranger Danger’.
‘Obliviate’ will let you know if you are here or not. It descends on some juicy riffs with a catchy synthy chorus, and a completely unoriginal breakdown filled with electronics and edited screams - this is the band at their peak. ‘Vyvanse Trance’ and ‘Home Invasion 101’ are straight up pop tracks from the early 2000’s and they bop along nicely.
‘Stranger Danger’ is the one track here where they go headfirst into Metalcore. John’s vocals are brutal, and he throws more guttural uncleans in. There are no cleans and no synth parts. Just the lads throwing it down and they throw it down hard which makes one think, is the synth and cleans needed?
That’s Outrageous! quickly disbanded after this release and it’s easy to see why. The late 2000’s rolled into the 2010’s and people gave up on electronicore. We grew up right? We grew to discover new bands and music that didn’t sound like it was produced by a bunch of 15-year-olds who just discovered Opeth and The Prodigy.
Well, I didn’t and say what you will, its all a bit of fun and if you take these guys to seriously, I think that’s on
you.
