Review Summary: Kerekubatica's latest release 'Geography' is a distinctive blend of avant-garde hip-hop and eclectic musical elements, reflecting the project's therapeutic and transgressive nature

Kerekubatica has been on the weird side since its inception in the beginning of 2020s. As a mean of therapeutic outlet for K (mastermind and author behind this sonic extravaganza) the project has always been a transgressive act of diversion from reality and questionable music solutions to record one’s creative ideas.

The latest release Georaphy consists of four tracks named after cities of certain importance to K – but their names hold zero clues about the substance. While its substance is a rabid mixture of amateur vocalize from the avantegarde hip-hop division and everything depressive and diverse musically.

Bucharest must be the standout track of the release, based upon the bizarre keyboard melody and agitated beats. Vocals are truly unnerving and the whole thing is something between Masada, radical jewish culture and bedroom records.

Munich and Rostov explore the landscapes of trip hop and bleak suicidal new school. Juicy plucked bass, melodic tracks buried in reverb and delay – two actually sound surprising as Bucharest was so eccentric, but these are so relevant in the modern hip hop scene, contrast is intense.

The closing track, Berlin, kicks off with a phonky beat and grows into a straight bassdrum and eurobeat “rapping”.

Everything about Geography screams “done by a non-musician” – and it’s one of the strong sides, as K is not afraid to use whatever the *** he wants to channel his mind monsters. It actually is very charming and has already drawn an enthusiastic fanbase for Kerekubatica, which is sure to enjoy this latest offering in all of its peculiarity.
