| JohnnyoftheWell Manin no ki (tree with no vacancies) is a funny title lol. Familiar with a few of these names, will follow up on others, cool find
| Winesburgohio turn that philistine... into a dang "philip"stine and give it another go when the mood strikes / u might not appreciate this reference but i had the line "turning her face to the wall, trying to force herself to face bravely the fact that many people must live and die alone, even in Winesburg" as my bebo profile quote
| Winesburgohio and i think it depicts loneliness and the sense of apartness that becomes a self-perpetuating tar pit better than about anything hmm
| Winesburgohio o did u not like it? it's been some years but I remember being dazzled by it in high school, like the sparse, firm prose conveying psychological acuity and genuine melancholy so well. something about the fabric and form of small-town-america(na) media really resonates with me, possibly because of similarities to small town new zealand(ana). or maybe this novel in particular was the start of my romanticisation. but i remember it being just as good - if not more moving and satisfying, in my 20s..
| Hawks Idk bro his sax playing is intense as **** at times but there's too much time of just dead air lol. When it hits it hits ahrd though.
| Hawks Gonna jam that Albert Ayler album tonight. Will let u kow my thoughts!!

| JohnnyoftheWell https://kasracritical.bandcamp.com/album/dream-metal rev coming soon lfg
| JohnnyoftheWell Heyo organising a techno digbox for the blog, dya want in? V lowkey, theme is the Build an Album criteria as approached by people not in the tourno who love the genre (in a Here's What They Should Have Picked kinda way) - hmu with a yt/Spotify link and short blurb if you're down
| Havey but yeah leonhardt's recordings are basically self-recommending, but his louis couperin recordings deserve special mention. very underrated composer, not to be confused with the much more famous francois couperin!
| Havey and ofc one of the most popular hpschd works is the italian concerto bwv 971 and you may want to hear a good version of that at some point: my fav is masaaki suzuki for BIS, and that album includes the underperformed sonata bwv 964 so it's extra recommendable...
| Havey the french suites are v approachable like the partitas but more modest in scope and intimate in character, and that album is one i always recommend to anyone who likes harpsichord: it has a really unique sound, being recorded on a real antique as opposed to a replica
| Havey leonhardt was the most influential classical musician of the 20th century, almost every established harpsichordist has at one point been his pupil or grandpupil, so thankfully there are many reliable successors to choose from... check bob van asperen in the pedalless toccatas bwv 910-916 (leonhardt never recorded that set), and then asperen again in the french suites bwv 812-817 (leonhardt did record those but it's not one of his best)
| Atari Good lord that Charles Mingus is incredible. Killer rec!
| JohnnyoftheWell gonna trawl and build on it! finally remembered Shinichi Atobe's Chain Reaction roots were a thing - what a great EP!! is there a story for the distance between that and his other output (time-wise?). also, peep the Sa Pa album i just rated: is ambient/dub techno with field recordings and pure haveybait but v satisfying for that niche
| Trebor. I've listened to it at least 10 times
| JohnnyoftheWell are you catching this build an album techno insanity / rate my mix lol
| Trebor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PrA9nov-R0
| Snake. come back to ny i'm holding an anti-SB party at the jeromes dream show that night
| Titan You?re the biggest pussy on this site quite honestly, always showing up at opportune times. Funny how we?re talking about poseurs on the pantera thread, know what I mean? KNOW WHAT I MEAN?
| protokute https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-recaps/the-curse-finale-recap-nathan-fielder-emma-stone-benny-safdie-1234941021/ this pretty much sums how I feel about the Curse finale

| anode thanks for the rec! i dig it, a lil too dance-y for me but some good tracks!
| JohnnyoftheWell cheers lol interview was mid insomnia hrs have struck multila is on notes are being brainstormed new necks rev coming too!!
| JohnnyoftheWell damn i was literally just thinking of reviewing vantaa how did you get me. Multila not having one is worse though, got an interview tomorrow but will see if i can cook after
| Havey more serious or strongly colored than others, on average. (and major key sonatas will typically have a slow movement in the relative minor and vice-versa, so it's all a mix in that set anyway) try the E major fugue bwv 878, and the B major fugue bwv 892, both from WTC book 2. that's deep stuff
| Havey nice!! didn't have much time to respond during christmas but yeah the 18th century is full of banally happy and carefree music in major (one reason to gravitate towards earlier (modal) music). i think bach is the exception though. thinking so binarily about keys may be unhelpful here (maybe worth noting that bach didn't use major/minor terminology, those terms are applied to the music retroactively): each key would've had its own associations, with some major keys being
| xxm Happy Holidays, Comrade! Been digging the lists.
| ToSmokMuzyki u wouldnt even give me a christmas rec and i also have no idea what ur talking about i didnt say nothin
| Cygnatti Idk but in the near future, I shall attempt to listen to listen to every single by yung lean and Bladee. ?
| Havey well in general i recommend ppl go straight to up-to-date specialist interpretations, skip all the "classic" recordings from star performers/virtuosi of the 20th century playing on modern instruments, you won't be missing much of value. some eye-openers: ophelie gaillard in the cello suites (both recordings, but i'd start with the first), ingrid matthews in the violin solos, faust/bezuidenhout in bwv 1014-1019 (faust doesn't specialize in the baroque but clearly did her homework for this album)
| Pangea Hey thanks joining the secret santa! could I get a email/discord or something so that I can message you privately?

| onionbubs oh wow that was wayyy more bare bones than i expected lol
| onionbubs oh thats ****in sick ill lyk when i have a minute to jam that. thanks for sending it over
| Casavir Hey, if you like Show No Mercy, you might also like Protectors of the Lair by Griffin. Has a lot of similar things going for it and it has some riffing that's pretty ahead of the curve for '86.
| DavidYowi Wax is ****ing insane. Played it for a couple friends and I, usually we tend to riff on a movie like this but we were stone silent while watching it. I saw a letterboxd review that put it best that the closest thing to it is the Mario 64 half press video, where it?s a flood of strange information you have no idea what to do with but said as if it?s a grand revelation of the universe. Also cool to find out it was the first film streamed to the internet
| ArsMoriendi Dang, I like it a lot. I?m trying to find people who will also like it, cuz I wanna hype it, but I feel like it?s not panning out so far
| JohnnyoftheWell it is all the ambient/dub techno tropes done succinctly and goodly
| unclereich what's funny is that i'm actually not. Snake reported me in the mod thread, and el-newg keeps puttin it when i review, but I'm pretty sure I preceeded Skele on this site. I think that Wicka might be, not certain though
| Hyperion1001 yeah its a crisis. that new caterina barbieri album is probably the only thing ive likes so far this year. im worried im getting too old and the new stuff doesnt speak to me anymore lol
| JohnnyoftheWell ryus you fiend check my list (but wait like 1 hr because there's an you're gonna need to see)
| SomeCallMeTim what wuz that semi recent (last year or few) death metal album with a very red / dark album art that's really morbid angel praise music that you've been mentioning a lot recently?
| Hyperion1001 I haven?t heard really a single decent electronic album this year besides the new Caterina barbieri album. Got any recs for me?
| Jots what'd you think btw?
| Colton55 plans changed now that I?m working full time as a developer, but rest assured I will apply what I?ve learned to make coltonmusic as robust as possible
| Hyperion1001 listen to that Fabricant album pizza just reviewed. metal aoty for me so far.
| DoofDoof yeah I saw he had a new album out and was thinking I have never been amazed by his recent stuff so why not just try one of his classic albums first - love the fact it is a concept album too !
| PussyGetter We gotta get you some real metal and a girlfriend
| JohnnyoftheWell daisuke tobari - guitar. need ur take (late 90s lofi/noisy psych folk 50 mins 25 songs many bangers)
| Jots https://theexitbags.bandcamp.com/album/our-sun-will-clean-its-holy-wounds : ]
| robertsona hope you're well. loving the first two songs on "how I do" by res lately
| JohnnyoftheWell nooo don't be trapped on spotify. weirdly, i'm almost the opposite for prose (although stilted translations that cling too hard to literal meanings are not the ones) - really turns me off when a translator works in uk/us cultural references or turns of phrase (esp dialogue) to the point that you can barely tell where the text is supposed to be set. tricky balance to negotiate differently for any text. also i ****ed up and went down the DJ Healer Planet Lonely rabbithole - v hit and miss
| robertsona Frank zappa - son of Suzy creamcheese (song)
| JohnnyoftheWell oh thank **** there's a 34-track lost in dreams version for that sweet sweet lastfm cred
| JohnnyoftheWell lol i wish it's an instructional project of translating haiku in a way that preserves japanese conventions and i'm tryna suss out a love/hate relationship with how easy it is to write reams and reams of bs about haiku
| JohnnyoftheWell IRINI!!! i remember forgetting to check that project, was trying to remember who/what it was the other day but had no reference point lol awesome. and uh yeah i know the release you mean paha - sure. am trying to rattle through my diss in the next few days, will get it on
| JohnnyoftheWell YAY thank you, loved that mix (takes a while to warm up, but s*** damn). not sold on the DJ Metatron LP though hmm
| JohnnyoftheWell Does the database have the Traumprinz/DJ Metatron Uterus dj mix?
| Butkuiss Goregrind is 0% about technicalities, it's a hatsuyume, deja vu, nirvana and... I and you. A state of cosmic mind soup, abstract ambiance of the highest caliber. You're a nobody compared to Mortician and other giants of gore... How are YOU gonna deconstruct Will Rahmer?s music if you can't even tie your shoes?
| Hawks Sweet will jam soon!
| Hawks I'll find it and czech it. I don't have Spotify, don't wanna pay lmao. Been listening on Bandcamp mostly.
| Hawks Glue II is the one I jammed I couldn't find the other one lol.
| Hawks So I'm digging this Bladee tape SO AHRD.
| JohnnyoftheWell it is a good and fun cybergrind thing with a 10/10 title, and you still need to check Chepang
| JohnnyoftheWell hypothetically would it be a bad thing if God Cum Poltergeist was aotm

There is one (one!) bureaucracy barrier for you to overcome - please hit up this form and send your info over asap, so I can get a database going and pin down what this thing is gonna look like. Love! https://forms.gle/zkKtidhnXpgYUsUv5

| Colton4 ty ty and yes it seems that way. I guess I got a little overzealous when I revealed the injection attacks on the web tokens
| Colton4 finally landed my first developer job
| parksungjoon i fuond him while trying to look up a specific detail about the shaggs. which is weird because hes not really outsider music by any means. that album is quite alright tho
| parksungjoon looks like i missed an ampersand thats why it cuts off
| parksungjoon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW3odf94Ehk track 3 is so funny if you stare at the album art while listneing ngl

| Manatea My man i never heard back from you! Lol. Did you end up coming out?
| ArsMoriendi No full albums, but I know a few songs. I particularly like his song ?Lover Boy?
| oisincoleman64 Regardless I would like to keep the comments on my lists to be at least somewhat friendly conversations about the contents of them rather than people commenting in bad faith, I've been on this site long enough to know it's to be expected but at the same time I'm not too big of a person to just comments that annoy me so it's nothing personal
| oisincoleman64 You might not have been insulting me but pretty sure Pots was
| robertsona Try the song ?misdemeanor? from 11 year old foster Sylvers, as well as his family band?s song from the same year ?we can make it if we try?.
| Mort. i dunno why it made me think of you, maybe because the cover art and a lil bit of the vibes reminds me of eversince? but like barely. spy on the wall ep is good
| Mort. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzYtW2D6pEs
| Colton s***'s been stuck in my head for like 3 days the intro part is so catchy
| ArsMoriendi Yeah the opener's great too for sure! Honestly, out of the 4 Yo La Tengo albums I've heard, it's my fave for sure
| ArsMoriendi Nice rating for I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass! Its closer is so legendary

| Pheromone https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iHVpnKpAcnM
| JohnnyoftheWell ah yeah i should defs peep that - familiar with ichiko hashimoto and poison girlfriend, but not a whole lot more besides dream dolph. was on one of those italian dream house comps the other day - always find em a weird format and end up bookmarking eps/singles to check later, which ig makes comp jams more of a commitment than a standard album check if that figures
| Colton unironic banger or nah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMA_iZ7effY
| rabidfish check a guy called gerald's radio 1 essential mix

| Sunnyvale Hey Ryus! I know you did the blurb for last month's album of the month, and also reviewed Andrea's latest album already, but any interest in writing a short blurb for Andrea as the March winner? I've been struggling to find someone to write anything for it. Let me know, thanks!
| Manatea What?s your email? I?ll send you some tips
| SteakByrnes https://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=456694 peep this large canine

| Manatea Somewhere central, namely Los Feliz, east hollywood, silverlake, even koreatown, north Hollywood or Glendale would work. Just staying somewhere on the outer rim of la makes getting anywhere else a bitch, the city is huuuuuuuge
| Manatea I tried to leave you a whole visiting la guide but my comment was too long. Hit me up if you need suggestions, but don?t stay in Santa Monica?
