| TheSpaceMan dude i wish, but nah i'm from the states. i was planning on experiencing it vicariously through you d:
| TheSpaceMan "might follow them around for their 3 dates in scotland" do itttt
| Jots https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/all-of-them-naturals real good
| zakalwe Cool. I'll check suuns and preoccupations
| zakalwe It's class innit grouse me man. I honestly think 2016 could be a personal fave ever year. A quantity of beauties have been released but it just needs that one instant classic. What've you been digging this year?
| PappyMason Yeah, that Horrors album is good listening. I'm bit conflicted as their influences are so obvious, but they do it well on that album so I'll let that slide.
| PappyMason I haven't heard it yet lad. But the two songs they released has got me really excited. Plus they're touring!!
| PappyMason Alright dude, you heard The Horrors - Primary Colours? So much The Chameleons in their music it's unreal!
| TheBarber Lille is awesome! there's a lot of big towns that are just as good if not better than Paris, try popping into Strasbourg/Montpellier one of these days!Right now I'm continuing my 3rd year in Cinema, made an essay documentary and my teachers dug it so much that this friday they are projecting it as part of a festival so the recognition warms the heart. Also am escaping paris for a few days to go to the lovely region of Berry, home of Sancerre, white wine, hippy friends and a big sculpture expo!
| TheBarber Hello dude how's life and love of music going?
| TheBarber hey Bjork I could be tempted; will ask my account if it's okay ^^
| zakalwe The castle was closed for the military tattoo so I didn't get a chance to have a look around. Went to a load of boozers and had one of the best meals I've ever had at 'the grain store.' Highly recommended. There were a few pompous ****ers walking around much like London but it definitely makes my top UK city. Next time I head up im going to stay for a few nights definitely.
| zakalwe Edinburgh was immense, absolutely loved it. Am going to take the missus for a weekend break soon as.I was only in Dundee for a few hours due to work, people were good as gold.
| TheBarber hey dude just wrote my first review and covering some good french long ass one track drone EP epic, wanna give a read/jam?http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/65909/Burning-Black-Wizard-split-Gneiss-Rock-Klingenberg-Am-Main/
| TheBarber as usual media from both sides is gonna overblow this kind of s*** too though
| TheBarber well dammit it's already started then
| TheBarber But you can be sure than these events are gonna spawn anger of the bad kind wich saddens me
| TheBarber My town has always been a somber lost dead ghost town so if anything the recent events might have fed it, I never see people on the streets and it's been like that for longer than I could remember so I really couldn't say
| TheBarber I'm ****ing angry that 12 people are dead for something as awesome as free speech, you'd really have to be a pathetic **** to kill or order a killing to oppose any form of freedom as a whole
| InfamousGrouse Keep up to date with the manhunt on le monde's live feed or presumably all of the other major papers are running something similar.. not noticed a sombreness around your town today and suchlike? Saw a couple of interviews given by friends of the cartoonists for radio or TV purposes, all of which were absolutely gut-wrenching
| TheBarber So yeah I'd say people in France are really taking the events at heart (one of the dead was Cabu, a famous caricaturist) with a massive wave of indignation (and soon a wave of hatred probably wich is a shame). Not to mention more shootings have been announced, I myself am keeping my calm and obviously still intending to go out but as a whole there's a bit of latent fear in the air, wich sucks
| TheBarber About the shooting at Charlie Hebdo right? tbh I'm terrible at keeping up with news or pulic sentiment (have no TV and don't listen to the radio as some of the reasons) but mostly people have been harboring images everywhere of "Je Suis Charlie" on social network (even woke up this morning with a long message from an unknown contact saying: "JE SUIS CHARLIE" followed by a message of peace and free speech.
| TwigTW You were right about 'I Put A Spell On You,' albums great, thanks for the rec.
| zakalwe Dropkick Murphys. Nice one me man that was driving me up the wall, incidentally just like the band themselves do.
| Xar ****, those were supposed to be heart icons! D:
| zakalwe Spotify. Then rushed out and bought it. It's that good!
| zakalwe Came out last week. It's authentic soul laid bare folk which as you know is a ****in rarity these days. Absolute blinder. Back on Thursday and a better, enriched individual as a result. The futures yours son!
| zakalwe Me man, being a sweaty have you listened to King Creosote - From Scotland with Love.I had an out and out s***e weekend, gave it a listen and it blew me away. Absolutely spectacular. Highly rec'd dude.
| Xar hey grouse man, you should jam dave bixby's ode to quetzalcoatl. it's got a similar drunken/sober hopelessly depressed vibes as jackson c frank. i think you'd dig. ^_^
| Pheromone well listen to Television Personalities - The Painted Word and get it =)
| zakalwe The return is always a sickner, at least you live by the experience gained. Speaking of which I was banned from here for months and I have no idea why. It's good to be back!
| zakalwe Everything is good, certainly can't complain dude. You still knocking about Paris or have you moved on this summer?
| Pheromone not yet but I havent had much time to check anything new recently so I'll wait a while before I check that
| Pheromone magazine rules too =) not as much though
| TheBarber Lowlife caught my eye right away! ouch dude that's shame, get well soon and try and have a good 3.9 end of weekend :]
| TheBarber Hey sup dude how was your night/gigs in paris yesterday? sorry I couldn't come over but we were really occupied then really lazy then really not knowing what we were doing then really dancing in a fun gay/weird bar so it was a bit of an odd night but overall 3.7 would do againPS: I'll second that desire for some atmospheric post-punk, cheers in advance!
| Pheromone I'll check the ones there I haven't heard. Cheers, man!
| Pheromone rec some atmospheric post punk homeboy
| TheBarber And yeah I'm sure you'll dig that Ought album, they wear many many recognizable influences up on their sleeves but in the end the manage to pull off a rather distinct sound out of it and it's just cool, also the lyrics awesome
| TheBarber Not a big Football fan (although I'm pretty certain I'll go see the semi-finals and/or finals if france or england are in it just for the bro'n'beer fun), Ben Frost was a pretty intense experience so it's a shame you missed it but La Rhume is such a bitch sometimes!
| TheBarber K been playing some tracks off National's Alligator and liked it but nothing more, I'll try and give it some time. Also here's two recs you I'm sure you could dig:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov-XwQjKHkE (influenced post-punk)http://planningforburial.bandcamp.com/album/desideratum (gloomy dirges from a Have A Nice Life friend)enjoy!
| TheBarber My biggest gripes were from the opener, that sort of ambient-y track that kicked off things really timidly with only the bass adding any sort of danger, the other gripe was the encore that came in akwardly and even though they played two really cool rockin' tracks, they really felt out of place compared to the rest of the gig
| TheBarber And for the show it's true the sound was prettty fabulous but the actual stage presence was odd, like sometimes the singer was like a ghost and it could really add to the creepy narrative and singing, there was also a moment of calm intimity between the two guitarists who played the dog track, it was cool like two actors. in general it wasn't necessarily lifeless, more often it was kinda haunting you know especially with the lights added to the vibe
| TheBarber Also I really enjoyed the Slint gig yeah, it was pretty great. Even though I had one or two gripes there and there but when the show was awesome it was damn awesome (plus they played Glenn off the Slint EP, one of my fav tracks, not to mention it's my name ^^)
| TheBarber No way dude we totaly suck at meeting each other! I should probably apolagize too since I got your country wrong x), plus I was damn sure it was you!Oh well, we'll see each other at the slowdive gig in La Vilette, do you want me to passe you my phone number in case we have trouble finding each other?
| TheBarber Ok dude no prob I'll come to the merch and ask for sir infamous grouse, see you tomorrow
| TheBarber Didn't know about it dude but I'm coming for sure, no way I'm missing them, gonna get my tickets now!
| TheBarber Haven't seen trois couleurs yet but I'll pick it up in my university's videothèque ^^. Tbh French cinema isn't my favorite (too litterary) but it's got many diamonds. Also if you're willing to try a 1930's french silent classic then try and get a copy of Coeur Fidèle by Epstein (gorgeous music too!)
| TheBarber Hacen't seen that one by Malle, if you though it was depressing get your stomach ready if you try his masterpiece Le Feu Follet. Zazie Dans le Métro is anything but depresing though
| TheBarber sorry there's a lot of black and white/very odd films here but that's most of my references ^^enjoy!
| TheBarber Rubber by Quentin Dupieux (2010, you probably know it but it's an hommage to the absurd in movies as well as a really entertaining oddity), La Haine by Kassovitz (1995, neo noir classic), Logorama (a famous 15 minute short movie that's always a blast to watch), Le Magnifique by Philippe de Broca (1973, entertaining, very french and with wild bursts of oddness. Finally/obviously: Pierrot Le Fou by Godard (1965, nouvelle Vague movement and most avant-garde classic of the bunch)
| TheBarber K good period! in that case: Zazie Dans le Métro by Louis Malle (from the 60's, already talked about it in the deafheaven thread), Hirsohima mon Amour by Resnais (A film from the Rive gauche, a movement similar to Nouvelle Vague, wich makes it very experimental and "littéraire), Repulsion by Polanski (1965, when polanski was a fench director, extremly unnerving and paranoid), Enter The Void by Gaspard Noé (2009, in my top 10 fav, it's like an extreme/surreal psychedelic trip)
| TheBarber What kind of french flicks do you want dude?
| TheBarber Nah sorry mate never stumbled on a bar in perticular that caught me yet :/ (eventually there's the world's end bar that was fun but I'm pretty sure it's too crowded now). But you arrived then cool!
| TheBarber Cool thing, good luck with science po I suppose haha. And good for you I really like the Triannon (from the inside it looks like an old theater but with the actual traces of old, can't imagine neutral milk in there though ^^)
| TheBarber As for places to avoid in paris I couldn't really tell, the bad venues I went too were in the outskirts and I can't really remember what their names are tbh
| TheBarber The triannon is also a beautiful venue with a lot of great contemporary and sometimes experimental music played there (got to enjoy godspeed, plus the floor is oddly constructed so our heabanging movements made the floor shake)
| TheBarber That's cool dude, where in Paris? Soo some good venues are: The Glazart (one of my favorite because nice and small with really good bands going there), L'espace B (even smaller but very diverse, we've had rosetta and black pus there for instance, although the sound is always pretty loud), also there's a very big park called Parc de la Vilette wich has a whole bunch of different venues within it (there's been death grips, melvins, flaming lips there) plus it's a parc that I love.
| tommygun by television? not yet man my usual record store doesn't have it and i can't find a decent quality rip on the net! gonna look harder on the weekend
| Chortles dude so i'm playin burnout paradise and one of ur times came up on one of the routes, unless there's another infamous grouse that is. cRazI
| Atari so let me know if you wanna switch or not man it's up to you
| Kman418 oh well. can't win them all i guess *shrug* still love that album to death tho
| Kman418 how many times have you heard it anyways?
| Kman418 no i think you're missing the point of that message YOU'RE PUTTING THE WONDER YEARS ON THE SAME LEVEL AS ASOB I DON'T EVEN WHY HOW SLTGHIUSEHIEGSU
| Kman418 did you seriously rate that s***ty wonder years album higher than three cheers for disappointment really REALLY
| anarchistfish People are saying it's like Boxer, and I can see where they're coming from. Only been listening to this band a couple.of months so maybe I'll come back in a few months time and love them
| anarchistfish oh and this national album is really frustrating me. I love high violet and when I listen to this I can hear all the bits that are like the ones I love on HV but it just doesn't get me going like it should. Kinda the same with boxer.
| anarchistfish Yeah that film was pretty good. Kinda like the shawshank redemption but 100x darker. French was very hard to understand though, I could barely do it most of the time, and they kept switching between French and Arabic and French and Corsican mid sentence.
| anarchistfish yeah generally people who learn languages later find writing the easiest. with bilinguals it's different.Um, la haine is pretty cool, quite dark. Ne le dis à personne is really really good. There are some pretty cool french comedies, like le placard and le diner de cons. Intouchables is brilliant. I'm also gonna watch a film called Un prophète tonight which is supposed to be really good so I'll tell you how that is. Been meaning to watch Mesrine and L'Ordre et la Morale as well.
| anarchistfish Mmm, I don't really go on many french sites. What I do do is that I have an app for Le Figaro, which is a news website, on my phone, and sometimes I just go on that and read through the articles. Otherwise I just read French books or watch French films. Honestly, my writing is probably the weakest part of my French. That's what happens when you learn phonetically.
| anarchistfish As long as they accept we hold the moral high ground. These almost-comebacks are becoming infuriating.Yeah I've had it on my iPod for ages, didn't really like it when I first listened ages back. Then started getting into disorder and I just listened to the whole thing. Love that riff in New day fades
| anarchistfish You would've thought they would've learnt not to be complacent after what happened last year
| anarchistfish i wanna napalm punch the nearest bayern related thing right now so come down to london and we can sort this out
| NorwichScene Cool, i'll give it a try when get home from work in no rush for it
| NorwichScene What site you use for Biffy? Its not on any of mine yet. Cheers
| AliW1993 Probably. I've got a free weekend so I'll hopefully be able to get something up.
| anarchistfish I don't actually know. The original had "Wild Girls" written on it, if that tells you anything
| oltnabrick I just watched that movie yesterday lol
| bach Nice profile picture. Can't wait for The Hobbit.
