I hated this album on first listen, and it's grown on me since, but there are still a lot of problems on this album. While he re-makes "Trucker's Atlas" into a managable, somber song which is a nice touch, for every "Trucker's Atlas", there's at least one "Ocean Breathes Salty" where there's a complete mis-match between the tone of the song and the lyrics sung, to the point where it's jarring to listen to. The best re-inventions on this include: "Space Travel is Boring", "Neverending Math Equation", and "Exit Does Not Exist".

Scourged upon release -- partial blame goes to the covered troupe at hand's appellation as the 2005 Music World's untouchable luminaries, but an actually reasonable reason being setting out to tackle Modest-goddamn-Mouse songs and settling primarily for half-hearted+abridged sleepy sketches. But if you fancy the idea of all the gruff that oft-obscures Isaac Brock's discourse stripped away and seeing its more sorrowful qualities accentuated via expert sad-man Mark Kozelek -- or simply Mark Kozelek in general -- and can forgive some steps towards Sap-ville, it's ducky. The discography-reach is appreciated, the guy knows his acoustic tones+mood-setting, "Space Travel is Boring" receives bombastic string-soar treatment and "Grey Ice Water" could pass for Spanish waltz. And maybe just for kicks, "Truckers Atlas" is wrapped up in 2:49.

If you don't listen to Modest Mouse, you'd have no chance guessing that every song on this album is a cover. But these aren't your typical covers - Sun Kil Moon changes not only the feel of the songs but the phrasing and structure as well, in the end leaving merely the lyrics intact. Some songs, especially 'Ocean Breathes Salty,' are stunners

I'm surprised no one has put this album up yet! This is an excellent album, and if you're a Sun Kil Moon fan this is a must have in my opinion.
