This isn't an album as much as it is a holy text of music with a lesson about what is possible if we get over ourselves and let ian mackaye and guy picciotto rule the world.

"Check Fugazi," said the chloroform-ingesting automatons wearing football helmets. This one phrase might have been uttered numerous times, and it isn't too hard to see why that would be the case; this post-hardcore band is about as influential as both of Judas' palms. Innovation and calculating unity have hopped aboard on the sheer, silver plaque that is The Argument, as Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto's vocals resonate tremendously with the overall tight musicianship this record often likes to excrete. Interested in taking the path of righteous enlightenment and decaying evil? Some should look no further and simply listen to this insightful behemoth of an album.

A band at its apex, simply. This last record contains everything that made the band good over the years, but this time all the elements are put together in a cohesive way. The guitar interplays between MacKaye's hard as feck riffs and Picciotto's dynamics, the tight af rhythm section, the vocal duality, and most importantly, the back-and-forth between their hardcore origins and the artsy persona they developed throughout the 90s. The fusion between what they were and what they were trying to be is finally accomplished here, and that might be the reason why this is their final recording. It's the kind of record that will always have an impact on me, whether by remarking a subtle detail we never heard before, or the simple, yet always amazing, sensation of witnessing once again a work that never fails to amaze.

None of the songs really measure up to "Cashout". Although they are all good. Fugazi is a good band to listen to if you wanted to start getting into metal and punk music. Overall: good.

Fugazi's 2001 album The Argument has a lot more laid-back numbers compared to the rest of
their catalog. However, in the first half of the album, we are treated to a refreshing amount of
changes in dynamics. Following a strange noise intro, we have two bombastic numbers "Cashout" and
"Full Disclosure", with the former having excellent changes of pace throughout it's runtime. "Life
and Limb" and "The Kill", on the other hand, are much more subdued cuts that feature a lot of
guitars with heavy reverb, and a plethora of other textures used to instil an ethereal atmosphere.
"The Kill" is probably one of the most creative songs the band has written. The guitar interplay
here is probably the most interesting it has ever been. The bass chugs along right in the pocket
with the percussion, while still playing unique parts that cut through the mix. While a couple
songs drag on, or don't live up to the quality of the rest, The Argument is the most
creative and varied that the band has gotten in their extremely respectable career.

Fugazi's latest LP (but not last, Canty Lally Mackaye Picciotto willing) is their richest and most internally conflicting release, I suspect because the members let haunting, catchy, nocturnal melodies gradually enter into and warp the grooves they've relied on since their beginning. The effect is that The Argument sounds like being lulled to sleep for all the wrong reasons. Companion EP Furniture +2 is a must, and I'm not convinced the band made the right decision when they released it separately from this.

Call it fugazi's first studio album. Previously, fugazi was a live band. The Argument is the torch that fugazi has passed to the next great post-hardcore band, lest the meek inherit punk rock.
