Although the album can get rather boring due to its excessive length, this is yet another solid release by the band; containing actual depth, surrealism, and evokes quite a pleasurable atmosphere. The main catch of this album is just how simple the musicianship is. It sounds good, yet doesn't really say much. Those who are looking for extremely complex composures should steer clear of this. But those who find fruition in easy listening black/death metal could easily enjoy this.

On its second full-length record, blackened death metal project Abyssal returns to the atmospherics of his debut and makes a marked improvement in the immersive mess of it all through improvements in sound and songwriting. The atmosphere is constantly oppressive and dreary, but there are odd moments of calm scattered throughout, helping different emotions come across very well. The drumming, although still done by a machine, feels more human than on the debut, which goes along way in giving a sense of intimacy to the album. The ending tandem of "Created Sick; Commanded To Be Well" and "The Last King" is definitely the best thing the project did before signing to Profound Lore, with a heavy emphasis on crushing ambience and rolling riffs. The songwriting, while improved, still suffers from some homogeneity, which ultimately leads to the record dragging heavily in the middle. That said, the bookends are pretty good, and the strong vocal performance does lend a steadying hand to the music as well. In all, a nice improvement from Abyssal, but still not quite at the level he'd see later on.
