0.0 | Slex | March 31st 18 | This is The Wonder Years magnum opus.
Expansive, intense and poetic, it reaches
heights I didn't even imagine this band could
achieve,and that's truly impressive considering
their discography up to this point. It oozes
the feeling of being a culmination, that
special album they've been building towards
this whole time.
Edit: lmao I was too old to have written this
earnestly at the time that I did

4.5 superb | Honest1234 | March 31st 18 | Holy fuck this album was so good. I mean, the last song "The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me" could possibly be their best track ever. The emotions, the arrangement, the lyricism, all done so well. Some tracks felt short like "When the Blue finally came" and there isn't really as much strong fast songs compared to their discography but the overall cohesiveness of the album as well as the musicality makes this probably their best sounding record.

3.5 great | letlivekid | April 6th 18 | For me The Wonder Years have always been hit or miss, with TGG and NCTH having some of my favorite pop-punk tracks in the past decade but rarely had the patience to sit through a full album. With Sister Cities, The Wonder Years have stepped their game up considerably in the instrumental department, and Soupy's lyrics and delivery are as passionate and heart-wrenching as ever. Production really brings replay value down for me, however.

5.0 classic | Defmytones | April 1st 18 | Album as a whole has really removed itself from their post-punk vibes. Feels mainly like an alternative album, but a damn smart one of that. Nothing that I feel like they went ?we need a radio song!? but wouldn?t surprise me if we hear it on the airwaves soon. Soupy sounds better than ever, albeit a little quieter overall.

5.0 classic | complexquasar | January 7th 23 | Absolutely amazing album, has a lot of emotion from the singer, great lyrics. They experimented a lot on this, synthetic drums, new song structures like 'the ocean' and different guitar tones. The song 'pyramids of salt' has a really cool drum melody in the chorus. It's a different genre than their other work, that's why a lot of people don't like it, but still a great album that holds up amazingly. This is one of my favourite albums from any band.

3.5 great | Tempertemperature | August 21st 20 | This record might be their best but it is dragged down by some of the worst production in recent memory. The entire mix is low and muddy, cymbal crashes sound canned and terrible, the bass is completely lost in a majority of the songs. A damn shame
Bump |
3.5 great | Illume | October 26th 18 | With each listen I keep getting more and more annoyed with the way Campbell sounds like he's on the verge of crying every time he sings. I'll probably keep knocking down the rating just for that.
Bump |
3.5 great | Malcontent | June 5th 18 | For The Wonder Years diehards - this is the best they've ever done. While the Wonder Years have had singular moments greater than anything on this album before, this album as a whole succeeds in every important area they've been searching for: in songwriting, vulnerability, this album might be their Magnum Opus. But for those that aren't a part of their group - those that don't have a way of relating to Dan Campbell's personal struggles or the band's demons- it doesn't click. The repetitive arrangements do not help either.

4.0 excellent | NeurOHMancer | May 23rd 18 | The album is excellent and I believe I praised it more than I should have during the first couple of listens. However, I took a more objective view after the first couple of times and though the rating has decreased for me, the album stands to be one of The Wonder Years' best.
Bump |
2.5 average | OllieS | May 5th 18 | Some good tracks but the production butchers it, so jagged, I really struggled listening to this after a while. It's a shame because 'Pyramids of Salt' is one of the best songs I've heard in a while, but the production just grates on me every time, headphones or speakers. One of the worst drum sounds I've heard in ages, really interferes with my listening.

5.0 classic | 3waycrash | April 10th 18 | "Sister Cities" shows even more progression and maturation following The Wonder Years' last album. The music isn't as upbeat or catchy as it used to be, and that's perfectly fine. The band have said they've wanted to write music that reflected where they were in their lives, not trying to write the type of album when they were younger, and they manage to succeed in doing that here. Ultimately it goes for different sounds that haven't been on a Wonder Years album until now, but it still feels and sounds true to the band. If "The Upsides," "Suburbia," and "The Greatest Generation" were seen as a pop punk trilogy, Sister Cities can be seen as the second part in a new trilogy following "No Closer to Heaven" hinting at an incredible finale to come. For now "Sister Cities" is a fantastic new chapter for The Wonder Years and a hopeful new future.
Bump |
3.5 great | Risodo | April 10th 18 | "Sister Cities" is another example of a Pop-Punk band that has sought other sound horizons focused on reaching other audiences. This type of initiative will always be valid, however, it should be borne in mind that the band needs to know their limitations in other genres. The Wonder Years made their name as one of the best Pop-Punk bands in the last decade, but now that they mixes the sonority with other genres, they took a not so considerable step as it has done previously. But as soon as life is on, bands always start from somewhere.

2.0 poor | gfreeman1970 | April 6th 18 | I doubt this was the sign I was looking for. Album is really tough to listen to. A disappointment. Holding out hope for Aaron West. Huge fan of the Years but I would rather you call it quits if this is the best you got.

Bump |
1.0 awful | TheC00n | April 4th 18 | I swear the people who like this album must be in a bathtub with a razorblade pressed against their wrist. I get that the band has to progress from writing songs about Kool-Aid man fucking your wife or try-hards on college campuses, but that also doesn't mean that every song has to be a poor copy of music Brand New made 10 years ago. This is literally 40 minutes of the same whisper/screaming pattern across indistinguishable background music. Get Stoked on It is better than this - at least that album knew it was a parody of the genre.
