1.0 awful | Zebra | June 26th 06 | When first hearing about Panic! At the Disco I thought they were a disco band that caused panic. Unforuntunately I was wrong and P!ATD are a pop-punk band that have a similar sound to Fall Out Boy. A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is filled with catchy melodies and upbeat guitar hooks but I still don't see what seperates this band from all of the other bland pop-punk bands out there. There are occasional piano scales played in a few songs but in all honesty P!ATD are basically your run of the mill pop band.

2.5 average | morrissey EMERITUS | June 24th 06 | I expect it will grow old pretty quickly, but right now A Fever You Can't Sweat Out has just the right amount of catchiness, though it borders on irritating at times. Highlight songs are "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom...", "Lying is the Most Fun..." and "I Write Sins...". If I had to pick a favourite out of the crop of similar sounding bands from the past couple years, it would probably be this band. The album has no longevity, but it's far from terrible.

1.5 very poor | 204409 EMERITUS | June 26th 06 | The more I am forced to hang around this album by way of my younger brother, the more I realize that it is just a derivative, linear version of Gatsby's American Dream, and the reason Gatsby's American Dream is so great is because of their ability to balance the Panic at the Disco catchiness with much more fresh and cmoplex song structures. Only listen to this album if you only recently learned how to read.

3.5 great | The Jungler | June 24th 06 | Panic! at the Disco's debut album is hard for me to rate. The music is much more creative than any other band playing the new style of Pop-Punk but the vocals are so annoying they are almost intolerable. Certain songs (including a three song streach at the end) are awesome and fun but others are just stupid. Fun to dance to though.

5.0 classic | AtavanHalen | August 26th 08 | Hands down one of the most genuinely excellent works in mainstream pop music since the turn of the century. Your attention does not even attempt to shift away from start to finish as two acts of fantastically written and performed rock operas- the first a synth-laden electropop adventure, the second a stark contrast with flamenco guitar, a horn section and a string quartet (amongst many others). What makes this so important a record is the fact that not a single album is quite like it, no matter how many Fall Out Boy comparisons you may choose to make. Combining this and Pretty.Odd., it's plain to see this band as one for the history books if their track record continues with huge successes such as this.

1.5 very poor | mrfudgeyhead | April 5th 07 | Awful, just freaking awful. This band is the next fad band in my shcool and everyone has to hear the cd, so i did, every song, and they suck live (went with my gf),in studio and just entirely. But i will give them this, THEY ARE SO DAMN CATCHY!, i haate every song, but even now im going through the lyrics in my head, and cant get them out. WHY? its like fallout boy all over again, oh well pop rock lovers will totally enjoy this though.

3.0 good | scpttrerulz | October 25th 06 | This is definitely a solid album but fails to stand out in terms of musicianship with the sound coming off as many other pop punk bands today in the first half. Where they really show their uniqueness is in the second half. There's no denying that this is catchy stuff and the lyrics are much more offbeat than what most bands of the genre deal with, making them a little less creative American version of the Arctic Monkeys

2.5 average | rentford | October 31st 07 | The debut album by Panic! At the Disco is slightly admirable for the 1st listen or so. However, the feeling that this band is just a lesser Fall Out Boy is hard to shake off, and only grows worse with each listen. All in all, a very disappointing attempt by a band who was actually able to make a few great demos before this.

1.0 awful | vanhalenguitar25 | February 16th 07 | Wow, this is probably one of the worst albums I have ever heard. I will sum it all up in one word. SUCKS! I mean this really sucks like not just ya it was bad this is holy cow that was horrible. I am never going to get those 45 minutes of my life back from listening to that album. I is just horrible. They think they are so cool with their little song I write sins not tragedies but their not. They never should of formed a band. I mean what do you think was going through their head when they wanted to become a band? This is just awful. They so like pop/rock and complete posers. I thought they were ok when i heard i write sins not tragedies then i listened to the whole album and I have never liked them since. To all of those Panic! At The Disco fans i have no idea why you like this band. They have no musical talent what so ever and they are LAME. Just plain lame and they need to quit trying to be popular. Do no waste your time on this album. It is a complete thumbs down.

1.5 very poor | Verily! | October 25th 06 | While their lyrics may seem intelligent at first, they are simply large words stringed awkwardly together to form an incoherent jumble. I was done with this band after hearing the line "caricature of intimacy" repeated over and over. There's only one word to describe their music -- cacophonous.

1.0 awful | Generic Joshman | October 10th 06 | The entire album made me question why music is making such an awful transition into the 00s. Why oh why is this type of music accepted when all that is going on are flucuating vocals and cookie cutter instrumentals going on in the background? I guess what i'm trying to say is that the human race is capable of so much more, its sad that our tastes have dummed down this much and now crap music is being accepted as good. Lets hope for a revolution.

2.5 average | Cheeseofultimatedoom | October 7th 06 | Even though i can't generally stand this recent spat of emo/pop punk music... i can't help but find some of the songs on this album irritatingly catchy.. maybe it's just the "wah oohhs!" abundant throughout spurring my misfits genes..
Some of the songs are quite interesting in that the melodies don't rely too heavily on the vocals oh and their use of keyboards and synths is pretty funky.. almost disco-lite. (no kidding, interlude anyone?).
Although a couple of tracks can't help but fall into the comforting dribbling of regular emo. Shame.
Oh yeah and it really doesn't translate live.

5.0 classic | 3waycrash | August 25th 15 | An album that I was obsessed with as a young teen. Its mix of a electronic pop rock first half and a more theatrical second half completely captured my attention. 4.5 superb | SeattleGrungeFan96 | July 6th 15 | Ten years ago, Panic At The Disco released their debut album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, it was a major success that lead the band to major popularity, making Panic At The Disco one of the most popular bands of the mid to late 2000's. This album is split up into two halves, the first half focuses heavily on synthesizers with the intention of making a theatrical electronic pop-rock night club sound, and the second half gets rid of all the synthesizers and uses more folk rock and jazz pop influences. Panic At The Disco are amazing song writers which helps make this album even more awesome!
Track 1, Introduction: 1/5. Really nothing special, just a filler track to open up the album
Track 2, The Only Difference: 3.5/5. Great song, great way to open up the album, however this track does get a bit old after a while so that's why I only gave it a 3.5
Track 3, London Beckoned Songs: 4/5. One of my favorites on the album, interesting lyrics, with dark toned instrumentals
Track 4, Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks: 4/5. Probably the most underrated track on the whole album, this track uses synthesizers and auto tune HEAVILY, I'm not a fan of auto tune, but it works for this track. Catchy riff, and great lyrics.
Tack 5, Camisado: 4.5/5: Another one of my favorites, great lyrics that deal with addiction, referring to Ryan Ross' dad.
Track 6, Time To Dance: 5/5. Definitely my favorite track on the album. Fast paced song with a memorable keyboard riff and great lyrics that reference the Chuck Palahniuk book Invisible Monsters.
Track 7, Lying Is The Most Fun: 4.5/5. Very catchy song with a very memorable chorus.
Track 8, Intermission: 2/5. Another filler track, nothing really special but more entertaining than Introduction
Track 9, But It's Better If You Do: 4/5. Very fun song, fun to sing along to, and a great way to start off the second half of the album.
Track 10, I Write Sins Not Tragedies: 2.5/5. Probably the song PATD is most known for, honestly I really don't care much for this track.
Track 11, I Constantly Thank God For Esteban: 3.9/5. This track uses some folk-rock influences, this track gives me the feeling of being at a live show, hence the lyric, "Douse the lights, we sure are in for a show tonight"
Track 12, There's A Good Reason: 3.5/5. Fun song that uses some jazz-pop influences
Track 13, Build God Then We'll Talk: 4.5/5. A great way to end the album, rather underrated track but one of my favorites with very mature lyrics.

4.0 excellent | speedie247 | July 20th 13 | Catchy, unique, energetic, with intriguing lyrics, this album is easily dismissed by most as horrid since it can be pretentious and the band does not stick to one identifiable genre, as most mainstream bands do. But I say, dare to be different, and that is what this album does. For me, it lives up to its name, but it clearly is a fairly polarizing album.

0.0 | | November 1st 12 | With clever wordplay in the lyricism, catchy instrumental moments and other additions woven throughout the music carefully, Panic! At the Disco's debut album shows promise, but is held back from its potential but multiple things, such as how relatively simple the songs are and the vocals, which while they are strong, are still rather whiny and don't fit the music that well.

3.0 good | Supertails | August 14th 12 | A Fever You Can't Sweat Out could have been really great if Panic! had waited. The problem is that their youth and lack of experience shows, big time. The instruments are all over the place, the production doesn't sound particularly great, but the biggest offender is Brendon's vocal work. To be completely frank, he sounds like a teen getting really into singing along with a song in the car. To be fair, that still sounds good with him, but it's a far cry from his voice in later work.rThere aren't many stand-out tracks on this record, but almost everything is at least a bit catchy. Panic!'s baroque style makes this more than just some amateur rock release, making sure it's at the very least still a good album.

4.5 superb | judestar666 | July 29th 11 | I was sitting at home in 2005 one day watching "Kerrang New Videos" and one of the songs that was played was "I Write Sins not Tragedies". At the time I didn't think much of it. But Kerrang played it more and more and so I had to check the band out. I listened to the debut album and loved it. Even though I was about 8 or 9 and didn't understand the lyrics or the themes behind the songs. I still loved the sound of the album and the theatrical look it had.
"What I Like"
The album is split into two sections. The first section featuring electronic instruments like synthesizers and drum machines and the second section utilising traditional instruments like accordions and organs. Track 8 called "Intermission" serves as a link between the 2 sections. I like this because it show the band have different tastes in music and wanted the album to be different than any other at the time.
I also like the song titles, some of which are quite long, "There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet" being the longest. None of the song titles are used in the lyrics themselfs and most of the titles are quotes or inspired by books and films.
"What I don't like"
This is me just being picky but the Intermission is a bit long. Sounds good but the piano part drags on.
"Conclusion"
Another album I have grown up with from my childhood into my teens and still on of my favorites. I love the lyrics and the overall sound the band went for. It was different at the time and will always be liked for its creativity and originality.

5.0 classic | siIent | July 18th 11 | You're an idiot if you think this is anything like Fall Out Boy. The only similarity is the lead singers' voices. Both singers sound almost exactly the same. But other than that, they're completely different bands. Fall Out Boy is a punk-rock band that can easily be categorized as the average rock band. Panic! has a completely different sound.rThis album was extremely unique, especially compared to their two newer albums. The first half is futuristic, synthesizer-filled, electronic alternative rock, and the 2nd half is classy rock with organs, pianos, accordions, and many jazz elements. The lyrics are magnificent as well. Each song sounds like an intelligent poem written by a university major. I highly recommend this album. The 2nd half of the album is far better than the 1st, although the 1st has some great songs as well. The best songs on the 1st half are Camisado, Time to Dance, and Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off. (or "Lying Is The Most Fun" for short). The best songs on the 2nd half are But It's Better IfrYou Do, I Write Sins Not Tragedies, Build God Then We'll Talk, and There's a Good Reason.r@vanhalenguitar25 - Can you find a better way to ridicule the album instead of just saying "it sucks"?

3.5 great | MadBaron | April 24th 11 | More ambitious than your average pop-punk band. "Fever" is infectious, theatrical, often very clever and tongue-in-cheek, and filled with literary references (to Chuck Palahniuk and Douglas Coupland particularly) that probably go over the heads of their target audience. The music itself is stylistically split between the two sides, one half dealing with synths and drum machines and the other with orchestral elements and more traditional instruments. While I applaud the effort to create a more interesting and diverse album, all of the superficial eccentricities and eclecticism it seems like they're consciously trying to draw attention away from the fact that several of these songs are based around very similar guitar riffs.

With the exception of Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks- a pretty dull track on the album. However! The remixed version of the song on the single for I Write Sins, Not Tragedies makes up for it. Also, Panic At The Disco rekindles many defining memories for me.

0.0 | ConorMichaelJoseph | August 26th 08 | Hmm...another CD from my sister's *ahem* "diverse" collection,I decided to leave behind my days of biased negativity towards pop-rock/emo/post-punk (you get the idea) bands and give this a listen.I used to like Fall Out Boy,but had only ever heard about Panic at the Disco from my sister, her friends,a girlfriend and TV,never heard a song from them. When I actually got around to hearing this,well... Its not bad.It sounds a lot like Fall Out Boy,but there is a surprising amount of variation too so it would be ignorant (as well as proof that you hadn't even heard this) to call it a 'rip-off' of Fall Out Boy or vice-versa.But more often than not Brandon Urie's voice can be annoying as hell and soon grates. The musicianship is good, and the presence of a synth is an interesting (albeit hardly, dare I say, unique?) aspect of the record. However,I have cast any fondness I have for Fall Out Boy into an abyss with a climbing pick should they decide to return to playing music with more of the personal feel they had in the album TTYG,and being a somewhat similarly-sounding band,I'm not crazy about PATD either. But if FOB is your thing, then you'll love this.

2.5 average | nineperfectmanson | November 17th 06 | A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is that weird kid at school that tries to fit in, and succeeds at a certain extent. The first half is the kid being himself and the second half of the album is the kid trying to fit in. The first half teeny bopper pop that teenage girls go crazy over and the second half, traditional music that sounds like stuff you'd here during A Las Vegas resort or if you went back in time. The way the album is sit up, it sounds like a desperate attempt to stand out.
Despite the overplaying of "I Write Sin Not Tragedies", if you give Panic! A chance, you may find songs that you might listen to, several years from now. Give songs like "Build God, Then We'll Talk" and "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" a chance. At least I know I'd listen to them several years from now, but if you want something to sing along to at the moment, stick to "I Write Sin Not Tragedies" and "But It's Better If You Do". Now, I love Panic! At the Disco's music, it's just the image they give out that I hate. You will know what I mean when you sign up for an online forum and see what the teeny boppers say about the band, it's almost like "Looks over Personality".

2.5 average | bcoz | September 17th 06 | For me, Panic! is Fall Out Boy's younger brother. Why? The band was discovered by Pete Wentz (FOB's bassist) and Brendon's tone somehow similar to Patrick Stump (FOB's vocalist). Moreover, both bands have long song titles. As for the music, I'd say Panic! is more experimental than FOB (using piano, synths etc). Some coined them as Pop Punk and some aren't. It's safe to say that Panic! is an Indie band coz I didn't feel that Panic! is into Pop Punk, Emo or whatsoever. Oh well, their debut album "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" is just OK. Some songs have catchy hooks and some aren't. My favourite tracks; I Write Sins, But It's Better and Lying Is The Most Fun.
