Music for people who don't like music. The sonically interesting tracks have unforgivable lyrics and the decent tracks are so hopelessly nondescript it's like they were commissioned for GAP commercials.

An album that sounds like it was created in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 but released way too
late to sound relevant. If this was a stopgap release made in 2021, I'd have more understanding,
but the fact that this was 6 years in the making is nuts. I've read all sorts of reviews saying
"the front half is great" or "the back half is great" - I truly don't believe anyone thinks this
record is great all the way through for one reason or another, and that the hype will die down
because of a lack of any real catchiness. If I had to choose, I'd keep "Crave," parts of "You
First" and the title track. Back half is quieter but overall higher quality than the dirge of the
front. The weird thing is that the band itself sounds great - I actually think Hayley has lost a
little bit vocally, leaning more on the "quiet" tricks she picked up during her solo career. I
just know they're capable of so much more.

Production is on point, nice to listen to, but it is so boring. So many nice touches and things that should pack a punch,
but yet once it ended all of those moments faded fast. could be a fantastic listen given the right mood and time. Yet to
find that myself though.

The artistic arch of Paramore is probably one of the most interesting ones to really come out of modern-day music and it feels like the new album from the long-standing band continues to show that they really known how to make some stellar sounding rock music. ?This Is Why? is another divergent in their style even from their synthpop roots embellished on their last record in which the band tackles a pretty dead genre in post-punk revival. In all honesty post-punk revival has never been a favorite of mine, but there are the obvious highlights and Paramore might have overtaken much of those. The sixth album is an alternative rock and post-punk tribute that no one was asking for but glad to see it. I doubt the band will continue down this road, but it?s incredible to see the energy and overall aesthetic get such a victory lap.
