Leave it to the talents of Ben Howard to make an innately subtle and feather-light album this obnoxious and shapeless.

A few standout tracks that are reminiscent of the drum machine + delay/reverb drenched guitar that worked on collections. Days of Lantana, Walking Backwards, Richmond Avenue, Spirit and Little Plant being the standout tracks. Couldn?t Make It Up is the weakest Ben Howard song of all-time, super cheesy diatonic chord progressions and the section that is identical to Africa by Toto? not a fan. The tracks on this album would be better served with just Ben playing his Jazzmaster over a drum machine like he did in his intimate solo shows post collections.

Benny offers bedroomy folktronica that strays as far away as possible from his early work, yet retains that undeniably Ben Howard feeling. These glitchy vocals and bleep-bloopy beats aren't my fave Howard iteration (ain't my least fav either, looking at you Collections) but they nevertheless show the man is always eager to experiment. It sometimes works, "Walking Backwards" and "Days of Lantana" managing to lift their melodies into my mind.
