Sharon Van Etten continues to grow into one of this generation's most distinctive and beautifully melancholy songwriting voices. "Serpents" finds Sharon at an aggressive, swirling peak, and "All I Can" builds to a truly powerful climax. It's not often that I find something unique in yet another guitar-wielding singer-songwriter, but Van Etten has that special something that makes her heartache yours as well. Highly recommended.

She can create extremely beautiful (Warsaw, Give Out, Serpents, All I Can, We Are Fine) and kind of ok-boring music (the rest), and this album is a good representation of that duality.
