Finally gave this a go and wow, this is indulgent even for Swans. But I didn't go in cold, I've been listening to their best stuff for a few days and I think that helped a lot. I feel like if I had listened to hardcore for a week before, I'd bounce off it.

So the way to enjoy this 2 hour Swans album is to listen to 4 hours of Swans beforehand. hth hth

They opened with a drone that exploded into Beggar and it was immense. The closer I believe is call Birthing and it was a twenty minute explosion of noise. Best band ever.

It's always interesting how the avoid playing songs from previous albums and almost always play songs from their latest album and sometimes, from albums they haven't even released yet. When I saw them in 2015, they played a couple of songs from TBK and the rest of the set were songs from The Glowing Man.

Same in Prague last night. It was probably the loudest gig of the four I've seen, which is bizzare since the current iteration was meant to be more mellow and calm than the previous one. Gira's acoustic guitar was brutally loud and just fucking inhuman. His moves directing all the bandmembers were fascinating as always. Also loved the sound of double bass guitars.

I love the album but after this concert, it's not clear to me why the next record shouldn't come back to To Be Kind sound. Sonically, it felt like Bring the Sun for two hours straight.

Yeah, I caught them last week and it was the same, although I think for me, they fucked his vocals a bit, they were too reverby. I love the loudness of the guitar - it was shamanistic.

Album's still very good, it has more of a winter vibe to me, but not in a Kate Bush-way. Paradise is Mine is probably my favorite (Am I ready to die?), along with The Beggar. Hurts that I couldn't catch them live this time.

I know I can't be satisfied with my efforts this year until I tackle this titan. Not looking forward to it, tho.

I stopped before the 40+ minute track. It was ok, I don't feel like going into it again right away but it wasn't as caustic as I thought it'd be.

Sounds like that may actually be true.
