I've only had small samples sizes of each, but so far I'm enjoying electric Lightnin' rather than acoustic Lightnin', which is strange given that with regards to blues, country, folk, and the like I almost always prefer the acoustic guitar. Lightnin' And The Blues was Lightnin' Hopkins' first record to gain substantial popularity and does exactly what it says on the tin: the blues according to Lightnin'. Nine of the twelve tracks here are of the slower-paced, more contemplative variety, but when he turns up the tempo on those other three, it becomes apparent just how talented of a guitarist the man really was. Of course, his voice is the crown jewel of most of the work here, as it gives the impression you're listening to a wise old man with stories to tell and lessons to teach. In this case, the impression is correct. That guitar tone is amaze as well.
