Eagles of Death Metal: Peace, Love, Death Metal.
Do you love to dance?
Do words like; Hand Jive, and Boot Scootin’, make you all hot and bothered?
Well if you answered yes to any of that then,
Peace Love Death Metal by The Eagles of Death Metal will be right up your ally. As soon as the first simple chords of “I only want you” kick in, about 93% percent of the people that hear it tend to lose all control and start dancin’, and either dance until the end, or pass out from exhaustion. The first three songs I only want you, Speaking in tongues, and So easy are fun little sing along tracks, even if So easy drags a bit at the end, but when Flames go higher comes on your can hear that it is instantly darker and more serious then the previous tracks, with lyrics like;
“I’m gonna set my soul on fire,
My heart Beats slow as the flames go higher”
The next track, Bad dream mama brings back the silly mood and, lyrics from before it combines a very danceable drum beat, an upbeat fuzzy riff, and ridiculous lyrics like;
“I've got a sixth sense you're a man-eating woman
So sophisticated
So LA
Don't try to be too smart
You might just find you'll miss the best part
I'm here right now
I want to be your monkey!”
After a few missed takes trying to get the next track rolling, they finally get things on the ball and kick out the jam that is, English Girl. In this song Lead singer Jesse “The Devil” Hughes, talks about falling head over heels for an English girl and taking her all over the world, but eventually the song breaks down into Hughes commanding the listener to “Keep Dancin”. The next track is, stacks O’ Money isn’t really anything special, but it’s not a bad song. The following track is a much slower, short little bluegrass sounding song that talks about going through houses and killing families, most people won’t notice the chilling lyrics but they are actually pretty serious. The next track is a pretty strait-forward cover of Stuck in the middle with you, but it is cleverly re-named Stuck in the METAL With You.
Up now is a very somber sounding song, already Died, it’s a pretty long song, that talks about being bitter towards en ex-lover. This is one of my personal favorite tracks on here. After that comes, Kiss The Devilwhich brings things back to the more upbeat sound, and ridiculous lyrics that ramble on about French kissing the Devil. Up next is another one of my favorite tracks Whorehoppin (*** Goddamn) which is about how the beautiful women of the night make Jessie Feel more like a man, This features a really cool guitar solo that sounds like Daffy Duck have a seizure. Following that is another really cool track San Berdoo Sunburn about, taking a special lady to San Bernardino, while running from the law, it has a neat southern style rhythm, and hand claps, I am a sucker for hand claps. Next is a kind of boring track, Wastin My Time , again this isn’t a bad song its just not really great compared to most of the other songs. The album closes with Miss Alyssa and this brings it back to, the faster more danceable style from earlier in the record, and features a few neat guitar solos. The lyrics are about Jesse using all of his powers of sexy; to seduce a woman named Alyssa. This is a really fun track, and is a great album closer.
This album is not about shredding solos, or double bass pounding, and the name of the band, and the album, and well pretty much everything about the band is a joke for the most part, but this is a fun album to put on and have a good time to.
