Review Summary: A triumphant culmination
Aara play atmospheric black metal, a subgenre of metal that focuses on a wide range of topics. Nature, loss, pain, misery, are all objects of much discussion and they are tackled by hordes of bands in this bleak form of metal. So, many of you already know this but on the off-chance that you don't, this is an album I would recommend to someone who is just getting into "atmo-black". Just what angle are Aara aiming for in this culmination of a trilogy?
Well, for one, this album is triumphant in all senses of the word. The soaring tremolo picked melodies over the chords played by the guitars are absolutely amazing. Black metal is not a stranger to this form of songwriting but rarely is it done so well. From the very beginning when the intro is over and those guitars come in until the very end you will be on the edge of your seat wondering what amazing lead comes next.
Aara seem very content with their brand of black metal but the perfomances really shine on this one. The drums sound really tight and synchronized with the guitars. Bass is not very apparent but creates a busier sound so it works. The vocals are interesting as well.
The feelings of despair, present in many tracks, combined with more melodic moments makes this a very interesting release. There are many riffs that sound uplifting yet also quite melancholic. Like a memory that you have realized you have lost, and yet you remember you lost it. All in all, great release. If you are a fan of black metal you will like this, for the atmo-black buffs, you will find this to be excellent.
