Review Summary: A taste of upbeat indie music from Morden, London, England band Good Shoes.
The first time I heard Good Shoes was a few years back, with their upbeat song, 'Never Meant to Hurt You,' which is on their album, 'Think Before You Speak,' which was released in 2007.

That song seemed the most memorable of their infectious tunes on that album... When I heard that they were releasing this new album, I had to get a bit excited, hoping for something excellent. I believe that this album is "great," but not "excellent." This indie rock band from Morden, London, England sure does know how to make some energetic music.
This album started off with the song,'The Way My Heart Beats,' an upbeat song that you could expect from a band such as Good Shoes, what I thought was an excellent start for this album. When the song changed to track two, 'Everything You Do,' I couldn't help but be disappointed. Transitioning from this extremely bubbly song, to the slowest song on the album made no sense to me. This song does not show case any of the qualities that I make me love Good Shoes; the energy and rhythm to their songs. They did recover very well from that downfall though. 'I know,' reminded me of the Arctic Monkeys in a sense, it could just be me going crazy thinking something like that, but maybe it reminded me of 'Sketchhead,' off of the Arctic Monkeys most recent album 'Humbug.'
This next part of the album I believe was the climax, the best of the album. Their single, 'Under Control' is next up. It's one of those songs that you say to yourself, "Why can I not stop listening/ singing this." Just one of those infectious songs which they are known for. 'Do You Remember' is yet another fun-loving song, same goes for 'Our Mother In a Pink Diamond.' These three songs in my opinion have the extra spark that the rest of the album may not have.
The rest of the songs on the album just portray the message of the album's name, 'No Hope, No Future,' about how everything used to be better than it is now.
The last song on the album, 'City By The Sea,' is not the typical upbeat, danceable song. This song I would say is perfect because of it's lyrics. "All I want is a little more time to feel your heartbeat next to mine," a nice ending to a great album.
Although Good Shoes has more potential than what they've put out in this album, 'No Hope, No Future,' it's still an upbeat indie album that is enjoyable. If you're looking for an energetic album, this is for you... but, if you're looking for something with more depth, I'd say take a taste of Good Shoes and move on.
