Review Summary: Rarely have I seen such a great display of basic and simple melodies and even less often performed by completely unknown musicians. However, Aeronautix do it with such grace and elegance it mesmerizes

There are days when I simply sit down and search the internet for unknown bands and while most of them confirm the fact there's a reason they're uknown and that it should stay that way some tend to catch me by surprise and leave a mark of satisfaction on my face for days while I'm listening to a great band practically no one knows of. Such bands also tend to be very experimental, the stuff most ears can't and won't digest. It is not surprising then that in years of searching for a post rock band that isn't boring or repetitive the effort yielded results. In the vast sea of endless droning post rock bands I never lost hope of finding one that actually realizes the obvious potential of the genre. I went from band to band and they all sounded very similar with a constant droning sound, a noise that irritates, musicians hitting the same two keys for ten minutes. The compositions are hardly emotional, the songwriting anything but unique. During those years I've stumbled upon two post rock bands which utilize the potential, namely If These Trees Could Talk and Hammock. However, recently another band was added to make up the trio fantastico...namely Aeronautix!

Aeronautix are a band made up of 3 musicians, namely: guitar player David Weicht, drummer Fabian Fahrig and bass player Sascha Jörres. The band comes from Moers in Germany and the guys play their instruments like no other post rock band I've heard of.
Ertheption EP was released on 27.03.2009. and consists of 5 songs. It's a 34 minutes long EP with no filler tracks, no drawn out or tedious melodies.

The EP starts out with 7 Orbits hitting the jams immediately. The song goes into various lows and heights changing melodies yet always keeping it interesting and constantly changing pace to ensure the listener doesn't yawn a single time. After six minutes just as one thinks the song is over the amazing solo ending puts a smile on my face while I was sitting on the edge of my chair expecting the next composition. Labyrinth is a beautiful play between the guitar and bass guitar, a great melody which intertwines the three fundamental instruments of rock as if pulled out of a psycho triller. Picture of a Fallen Bird starts out slow as most post rock songs due, but after 2 minutes of anticipation a beautiful melody fills the air, and not two minutes later the melody progresses into a faster tune which then declines into a slow and depressive outro. At this point I simply had to wonder how other bands with more equipment struggle to create such simple yet entertaining and beautiful melodies. Veda Noir's simple intro lasts for only a minute, enough to distance us from the previous song and not to get boring or repetitive. Again, melodies after melodies change with the constantly shifting pace. After four minutes the song delves into an epic closer as if the song is an album itself but even though I expected distortion to kick in it never did. As a matter of fact, the album is almost devoid of noise and at all times are all three instruments clearly heard. The song ends in yet another soothing melody. I thought the last song which is also the longest had to be bad, it couldn't have possibly been as good as everything I heard up to that moment. It wasn't, it's the best song on the EP. A slow yet depressive intro progresses into what has to be the most melancholic melody I've ever heard (apart from Tearwave melodies), beautiful and chilling to the bones it picks up the pace bringing tears to my eyes as an even more beautiful melody fills my ears. The tune delves into distortion and an epic finish of one of the best albums I've ever heard..but wait, suddenly the melody breaks up and starts to jitter only to jump to another tune and a huge smile is born on my face while the EP ends 30 of the most beautiful sounding minutes of the day, the week, the month, and surely the entire year.

Rarely have I seen such a great display of basic and simple melodies and even less often performed by completely unknown musicians. However, Aeronautix do it with such grace and elegance while their sounds are devoid of clichés I've come to expect from post rock bands. While only their first effort and completely unknown the band sets the standard for the genre developing on what If These Trees Could Talk started yet while sounding unique and fresh. Some might argue the compositions lack structure or are an improvisation yet if that is true then it only adds to the new post rock standard Aeronautix have set.
