Kyu Sakamoto was an iconic Japanese artist and actor. He is best known for his 1961 single "Ue wo Muite Arukou", which was a
global hit throughout the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and Norway under the simplified name of "Sukiyaki". It remains
the only Japanese-language song to reach number 1 in the US, Australia and Canada, and is also one of the best-selling singles
of all time with sales surpassing 13 million copies. He would remain a well-known figure in Europe throughout the 60's and 70's,
and became a Japanese icon by the time the 1980's started. In 1985, however, Sakamoto passed away as a result of the Japan
Airlines Flight 123 crash at the young age of 43. He remains one of the most respected icons in Japanese pop culture today.
