01.12.14 | All those "?" signs between artists on the first couple albums are meant to be "don't equal" signs. Why can't anyone get
album art right? This site is shit. |
SgtPepper
01.12.14 | I'm actually about to start a petition that makes the mods recognize all of the important genres that are criminally being ignored in this site. I mean, seriously, where is:

quality doesn't determine genre in any sense. you seem to be unable to wrap your head around this. |
Cygnatti
01.12.14 | "Ska genres: For those who don't know: 1st wave: doo-wop-inspired Jamaican pop music: innovative and timeless 2nd wave: Brit-punks inspired by 1st wave: still innovative, but political and less timeless 3rd wave: kinda started as an extention of 2nd wave in the states but got bastardized 'n' commercialized to the point of irrelevance. Why we need more than 1 "ska" genre: Listen to The Skatalites and Real Big Fish and tell me they're the same"
why stop at ska? we'll also def need 3 different tags for emo + another one for skramz forreals. |

01.12.14 | Parts of this list seem to imply that only pure [insert genre here] artists should be labelled as such and that obvious influences from these genres in other artists should be ignored, i.e. prog bands with strong jazz influences shouldn't be allowed to have jazz (fusion) as a secondary tag. If that is what you're implying then that's kinda dumb. |
JamieTwort
01.12.14 | Referring to 1 and 2 mostly. |

01.12.14 | I'm no genre nazi - it just rubs me the wrong way when there's a dozen metal genres and one for blues or jazz. Just sayin' |
SgtPepper
01.12.14 | For jazz I can understand. It would be more clear if it was divided between bop, free/avant-garde, big band, nu jazz and fusion
or something, I agree. but there's also a band description at the top of each band page where someone can be more descriptive
of what the artist(s) 'truly' sound like while using the blanket term of "jazz" under the genre tag.
just sayin' |
osmark86
01.12.14 | in which case the same could be done for metal. he's got a point. |
Masochist
01.12.14 | "I'm no genre nazi - it just rubs me the wrong way when there's a dozen metal genres and one for blues or jazz. Just sayin'"
I think that has more to do with the fact that the genre tags can be edited by anyone on the site, and Sputnik has (or "had," I suppose) a definite focus on metal. Otherwise, I'd wager the only metal tags you'd see would be Metal and Death Metal. |
JamieTwort
01.12.14 | "I'm no genre nazi - it just rubs me the wrong way when there's a dozen metal genres and one for blues or jazz. Just sayin'" I
actually agree with this to an extent, it's just your reasoning and some of what you've said in the list descriptions that's rubbed
me up the wrong way. |

01.13.14 | Anyone else think the addition of the 'heavy metal' tag was kinda pointless seeing as we've also kept the 'metal' tag? I know both are supposed to represent different things ('metal' being a more general tag while 'heavy metal' is more specific to traditional heavy metal) but do we really need both? People don't generally distinguish between the two unlike 'rock' and 'hard rock'. |
