05.31.14 | Love prog (obviously) but most of this stuff doesn't do much for me. |
Mad.
05.31.14 | Muse is not prog
There's some pretty awesome stuff here, along with stuff that has too much ch33se for me to handle
Here's some prog 2014 recs cuz I love you:
Messenger - Illusory Blues (check it already)
Cosmograf - Capacitor
Dream The Electric Sleep - Heretic
Anubis
Wishbone Ash - Blue Horizon
Crippled Black Phoenix

Onirium
05.31.14 | "Love prog (obviously) but most of this stuff doesn't do much for me." [2]
@JS19: Seriously check out Gazpacho - Demon. It's my personal aoty and some of the best prog I've heard in a long time |
BMDrummer
05.31.14 | No prog in years? Damn |
JS19
05.31.14 | Not prog in a pure kinda sense. Still have much love for bands like Gazpacho (@Onirium that album is sweeeeet agreed) but don't really do much symphonic/neo stuff! |
JS19
05.31.14 | Can't tell i you're joking greenlink.... |
JS19
05.31.14 | Heard about half of them Mad will check the rest thanks! Curious as to what's too cheesy for you here?
Oh and Jamie yeah I stuck with stuff that's come out in the last couple of years - love the more
symphonic/classic stuff just as much! |
Friday13th
05.31.14 | Welcome back to the fold! Nice, 13 is one of my 5's. |
JS19
05.31.14 | Feel like 13 gets overlooked cos of the Christian themes when damn is it one of the best modern prog albums period |
JamieTwort
05.31.14 | "Oh and Jamie yeah I stuck with stuff that's come out in the last couple of years - love the more symphonic/classic stuff just as much!"
Not really sure what you mean by the more symphonic stuff. The best prog isn't symphonic, unless you call Genesis symphonic but then again their best album is hardly symphonic at all. |
JS19
05.31.14 | I guess symphonic is the wrong word - I would use it to describe stuff like Harmonium or Steve Hackett's solo stuff. Can't really put a finger on exactly what it is about those.... |
JamieTwort
05.31.14 | Oh yeah Voyage of the Acolyte is some seriously good symphonic prog, probably my favourite album that I would class as such. |
JS19
06.01.14 | I've only heard it once a while back, definitely going to have to dig that one out again |
SIMBOLIC
06.01.14 | but periphery just released an ep |
Mad.
06.01.14 | @JS I can't pick out any in particular but some neo prog seems too poppy or keyboard-heavy and kinda dated for me to like. |
JS19
06.01.14 | Yeah i know what you mean, I can tell cheese just turns you right off stuff. I'd say check Nine Stones Close and Sky Architect if you haven't already - I think you'd enjoy |
Mad.
06.01.14 | Yeah I've heard Nine Stones Close's latest album, really promising stuff, their next could be amazing. Their side project Jet Black Sea is also awesome - dark instrumental and experimental prog.
I've heard some of Sky Architect's second album, which was quite cool, I should relisten. |
menawati
06.01.14 | "I can tell cheese just turns you right off stuff" - seems impossible to me for someone to like most prog without having a high cheese tolerance |
