The Top 10 that became a Top 30+
After realising that I cannot cut the list down much further I simply upload my own list instead... |
1 | | Steven Wilson Hand. Cannot. Erase.
Every album since Grace for Drowning landed on my personal top spot and "Hand. Cannot. Erase." is no Exception. |
2 | | Julia Holter Have You In My Wilderness
Most will disagree, but to me this is her strongest work. Edgy but yet so accessible. |
3 | | Jewel Picking up the Pieces
I know, Jewel is not a much respected artist around here. And I even get why. For some reason all her changes in style didn't bother me that much. Still I was excited to hear her back-to-the-roots album. And it delivers. |
4 | | Chelsea Wolfe Abyss
Her most heavy, most intense and most likely her best album to date. |
5 | | Enshine Singularity
Somewhere between Alcest and slight hints of older Opeth, this thing is as gorgeous as Death Metal can get. Yes. Gorgeous. Death. Metal. |
6 | | Wolf Alice My Love Is Cool
As a child of the 90s it was clear, I was going to love this album. Great songs, with the right amount of sugar and noise. Great stage presence too! |
7 | | Bone Man Shapeshifter
Last minute entry, so I am probably still hyped. But for anyone with a slight weak spot for Psychedelic Stoner and/or good old Grunge sound, this might be the release to check out. |
8 | | Intronaut The Direction of Last Things
Wonderful mixture of heaviness combined with Jazz and Prog Rock. For me their best one. |
9 | | Killing Joke Pylon
All in all Killing Joke simply sound like Killing Joke on this record. But the pure energy and the songs are so intense and pushing forward, it's plain fun! |
10 | | A Place to Bury Strangers Transfixiation
I am a sucker for these guys, because how ever loud they get, how ever much distortion they put into their recordings, they always manage to keep the right amount of Pop appeal. |
11 | | Yuri Gagarin At The Center Of All Infinity
Take Monster Magnet's Dopes to Infinity, substract the vocals and some of the obvious hooks and you get the new Yuri Gagarin album. And that's a good thing. |
12 | | Jane Weaver Silver Globe
Awesome mixture of Singer/Songwriter, a bit of Space Rock and lots and lots of Psychedelic. |
13 | | Tiny Fingers The Fall
If you think you have heard all what Post-Rock has to offer, you haven't heard this album. Finally a band that brings something fresh to the genre. |
14 | | Snail Feral
Since their reunion Snail were on a constant high and this album is no exception. Great Stoner/Doom! |
15 | | Nadine Shah Fast Food
Sounds similar to her debut album and can keep the quality high. Recommended for fans of dark female voices with enough Rock to be cool. |
16 | | Rykarda Parasol The Color of Destruction
I will never get, why this woman isn't famous. Everything she has released was quality. Including this album. Less Nick Cave than previous efforts, but still brilliant. |
17 | | Failure The Heart Is a Monster
Failure always remained some kind of insider. Which is surprising, given the fact that they played the right sound at the right time. Still the Grunge label never did them justice, since they always had some Psychedelic elements to their music too. And still have. |
18 | | Weedpecker II
Some of the best Stoner/Doom to be released in 2015... |
19 | | Soko My Dreams Dictate My Reality
Soko's second album surprised. Gone the days of acoustic songs, instead she replicated the best The Cure had to offer in their glory days. And does this surprisingly well. A great homage to a great band. |
20 | | My Sleeping Karma Moksha
My Sleeping Karma continue with their simple, but very effective mixture of simple leads, combined with that typical stoner rhythm and once again succeed in doing so. |
21 | | Anna Von Hausswolff The Miraculous
Where Anna's previous efforts had some moments of brilliance, "The Miraculous" is more consistent. From start to finish a great album, but with a definite highlight (Deliverance) |
22 | | Thee Oh Sees Mutilator Defeated At Last
Maybe the most fun Psychedelic Rock band around. And they keep getting better. |
23 | | Amorphis Under the Red Cloud
I don't know how they do it. Amorphis once again copy themselves and once again they manage not to fail, because of the sheer brilliant songwriting. |
24 | | Paradise Lost The Plague Within
Paradise Lost become gradually heavier for a while now. "The Plague Within" even shows some growls again. And great songs, too. |
25 | | Tim Bowness Stupid Things That Mean The World
The true mastermind behind No-Man with his second solo effort. This one added quite some rocking moments, which makes this even more fun than the previous album. |
26 | | My Dying Bride Feel the Misery
My Dying Bride do what they know best. This band will most likely never fail. And luckily so. "And My Father Left Forever" is a hell of a song. |
27 | | Braids Deep In The Iris
There is something about this album, that makes it very special. It's in it's essence a Pop album, but it's definitely different enough to be considered "Indie". Whatever, it's a great album. |
28 | | Penetration Resolution
Comeback after 36 years. And they still sound fresh. A lot of fun! |
29 | | Wilderun Sleep at the Edge of the Earth
This is as close as you can get to Opeth, yet still manage to sound like a Folk Metal band disguised as Blind Guardian. Sounds strange? Maybe, but it's one of the best Metal releases of the year! |
30 | | Subterranean Masquerade The Great Bazaar
Speaking of Opeth. These guys also share some similarities. Prog driven songs with growls, delivered in a splendid package. |
31 | | Sophie Hunger Supermoon (Deluxe Edition)
Her 5th album and she is still going strong. Admittedly she sounds less adventurous than on previous albums. |
32 | | Elder (USA-MA) Lore
And something special for the end. Elder combine their Stoner-Doom with quite some Progressive elements and create one of the most exciting releases of 2015 |
