come at me sputnik |
Josh D.
04.22.11 | That almost-fracus with Foster and Rose wasn't a big deal. He kept his arms up and didn't move. That's just basketball defense, so I don't have a problem with it. It's not contact sport, but it is still a physical game. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | how about this?
http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/112/f/b/foster_elbow_by_galliart-d3elmi9.gif
that's the kind of shit that gives players concussions and knocks them out of games and/or series. also, it's only basketball defense if he's attempting to make a play on the ball, which wasn't the case with that last foul on Rose.
Plus, he's been doing it the whole series. A good amount of blame also goes to the refs for calling a bogus game -- the Bulls are getting called for ridiculous touch fouls, but only 1 of every 3 muggings from the Pacers results in a whistle. It's been horrible.
Yet, we're still up 3-0. |

come on, tell me he's trying to make a play on the ball there. that's just fucked up thuggery. |

04.22.11 | Didn't check the links since I don't care because I hate the NBA. But the Bulls will probably make the East finals, so it's all good. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | also, notice Tyler "I'm a fucking pussy" Hansbrough's cheap shot at the end of Foster's foul on Rose. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | haha I'm at work Hawks, just bored because there's nothing to do in my job on Good Friday and I'm steaming over this bullshit.

04.22.11 | This is exactly why i can never watch the NBA. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | yeah I'm bitter. because I'm afraid that with the series all but over and the refs/league not doing anything about it that Foster's just going to take Rose's head off on Saturday and sideline him for the rest of the playoffs.
which would ruin any chances of us winning another single game. |
AggravatedYeti
04.22.11 | Not from a foul like that. |
Hawks
04.22.11 | Inveigh just so you know, I'm rooting for the Bulls so hard. They're my favorite team (along with the Knicks) and D-Rose is one of my favorite players for sure. Pretty sad that Tyler Hansbrough plays for the Pacers because he's a UNC alum and I love UNC lol. |
Winsomniac
04.22.11 | Celtics/Bulls, Lakers/Thunder.
And let's be fair, Inveigh. If any team has been getting shafted by the officials consistently all season, it's been the Celtics. All fandom aside, refs whistle them for the most bullshit contact and do absolutely nothing at the other end. |
Josh D.
04.22.11 | If I hear an analyst say "Psycho T" one more time... |

04.22.11 | the Celts get called because they talk a lot of shit : ) |
Winsomniac
04.22.11 | Yeah, it's definitely one of my least favorite nicknames.
123 Hawks about fanboying Hansbrough, though. Trade him to the fuckin' Nuggets and I swear to god I'll move to Denver. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | well if he does to Rose what he did to Deng it could prove dangerous... also, if he just does the same thing when Rose is in the air (which is often)...
the Celts got called for a lot of shit this year for sure -- but in years past got their fair share of favorable calls. I mean, look what they got away with against the Knicks in game 1 of that series (i.e. Pierce elbowing Melo and getting Melo called for a foul + Garnett blatantly tripping Toney Douglas on a screen and not getting called for shit).
that said, I want the Celtics to win that series because I want them to annihilate the Heat in the 2nd round. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | lol I've always hated Hansbrough, can't really put my finger on why. maybe it's because he's just a consistently flailing weirdo who flops all over the court and eats cookies with a fork in front of his locker. |
AggravatedYeti

Winsomniac
04.22.11 | Which they better. I dunno, the Perkins trade really pissed me off, but after seeing Kristic and Green at least not being ENTIRELY useless, I don't think it weakened them enough to lose to a premature Heat squad. There's no contesting that Wade and LeBron are top-tier players, but I just don't think Bosh is quite where they need him to be, nor is the supporting caste/teamwork in general at a level at which they can beat the Celtics with. Especially after Rondo WTFdropping 30 the other night.
Anything after the second round, however, hinges on Allen learning not to be the streakiest motherfucking shooter on Earth (17 in one game followed by 0/22 shooting in last year's finals? REALLY?) and the health of a pretty old ball club. |
AggravatedYeti
04.22.11 | if JO/Green continue to play well we may stand a chance past round 2. The hopefully impending standoff with The Heat will answer a lot of questions about this new squad. I'm not counting on Shaq at all anymore either--thankfully Jermaine is starting to step up again. Also Rondo, Rajon plays well, the Celtics win games. |
ARuinedEmpire
04.22.11 | I kinda remember a bunch of bullshit calls being called in the second game towards the end of the game on the Pacers.. |
Winsomniac
04.22.11 | Yeah, as much as I want to see it, I don't think Shaq's going to be coming back.
Also, I forget when it was, but Hansbrough had an absolutely crushing block against the Bulls.
And anyone else notice the persistent media hyping of the Knicks even as they continually fail to deliver anything really impressive? First playoff win in TEN YEARS?...aaaaaaand nope. They lose. AGAIN. BUT THIS TEAM IS SO GOOD OMG HYPE! |
savagecabbage
04.22.11 | +100000 for this shit. Rose=MVP |
Winsomniac
04.22.11 | Rose has the MVP this year, no doubt about it. It remains to be seen whether they can get to the Finals this year, though. |

04.22.11 | Screw the Pacers. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | I don't remember any bullshit calls at the end of game 2 against the Pacers.. at least none that were egregious...
but I do know that Foster's been intentionally fouling with seeming intent to injur at multiple points throughout this series. if he gets a Kurt Thomas elbow to the groin in game 4 he won't be able to complain about it.
on the subject of the Celtics, I would've liked to see them go one more year into the playoffs with that team intact, just to see how it could turn out if they were healthy. but alas, Jeff Green ain't that bad. |
Winsomniac
04.22.11 | Yeah that Perkins injury was so fucking displeasing... At least it doesn't look like the Gaykers have a three-peat in them this year. |
AggravatedYeti
04.22.11 | I wouldn't count the Lakers out. |
Inveigh
04.22.11 | idk, if Pau turns it around (and I have no reason to believe he won't) then I still think the Lakers are the best team in the league overall. |
Winsomniac
04.22.11 | Dammit, you guys harshin' my mellow. I'm honestly just hoping that either the Spurs or the Thunder beat them. I'd really like to see the Thunder in the Finals this year, and it doesn't seem like all that much of a stretch. |
AggravatedYeti
04.22.11 | Thunder look like strongest team in west right now, imo. Perk turned them into contenders.
Its even arguable they've looked the strongest so far in these first few games. |
AggravatedYeti
04.22.11 | yeah I mean they're playing alright against the fucking Sixers. |
Winsomniac
04.22.11 | 123Yeti.
It's the Sixers. And it's not like they've consistently been beating higher-caliber teams. They have the ability to win a championship, I'm just not sure if they're realistically going to be able to pull it together this year. |

04.22.11 | I really hope the Magic get their goddamn act together and (sorry inveigh) beat the Bulls in 2nd round by relying on team production and playing solid D. That is, if they can get past the Hawks, which they actually might not if their oldies don't wake up, but they're still favorable against them. And seriously, their trade earlier this season with the Suns is probably going to cost them dearly deeper into the playoffs, because Richardson is declining as fast a Carter is and Turkoglu has lacked passion ever since he was first traded away from Orlando. Bulls will probably beat the Magic in 2nd round but I think it'll be close (4-2 or 4-3). If the Magic can play intense D throughout the games and shut down the other guys around Rose, they may have a shot because the Bulls don't have anyone to stop Howard in the middle (if Boozer will be as ineffective in playoffs as he usually is, that is). |

AggravatedYeti
04.22.11 | "and you haven't been playing like the #2 defense since the trade, even though Perkins hadn't played for you all year."
....erm, I don't know dude. We kept the #1 spot statistically until very deep into the season. Which we then relinquished to The Bulls. And even though D12 won Def Player in a land-side--KG still placed 2nd.
also: when Shaq has been healthy he's played very well for us this season. |
AggravatedYeti
04.22.11 | lets not forget you won only a single convincing game against the Celtics this season and The Heats record against winning teams (not to mention the top tier teams) is nothing to brag about. |

04.22.11 | Game 3 tips soon. Time to shut up and put your Guinness where your mouth is. |
Metalstyles
04.22.11 | Actually, Pit, Shaq can still make a little impact in the paint from a defensive standpoint as long as people think he can make a difference. Scare tactics man, haha, just Shaq's mere presence may force coaches to re-think their inside game because he is still a big and intimidating body in the paint that can grab boards and swat shots.
But in general, he is too old and banged-up to make a significant impact throughout the playoffs for the Celtics. And because Jermaine had a few good games doesnt mean he's back or anything so yeah, the Celts have a problem down low. Garnett is great, but he can't guard all of the opposing bigs himself throughout the playoffs. |

Inveigh
04.23.11 | Rondo was awesome last night -- and yeah, the Celtics, ironically, lost their offensive efficiency when Perkins left but their defensive stats stayed pretty constant. That's why I think the effect was more mental than anything.
It was going to matter more if the Celts got the 1 seed and ended up playing the Magic in the 2nd round (Perk could guard Howard one on one -- though the Magic are no guarantee after last night either). I'm really, REALLY looking forward to watching the Celtics-Heat series, I think it's going to be epic.

The same way we beat them twice already in the regular season (although OKC won the most recent match-up). We don't need to contain Westbrook as you can see from their first game, we just need to contain Durant, which won't be as hard for the Lakers as most teams. |
AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | Yeah I mean all those blind Laker fans too who's team since 2000 has made 7 final appearances and 5 wins with a three-peat and back to back. They're dreaming too. That team is trash. |

AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | Yeah I mean Jordan Farmar hasn't had trouble starting for the fucking Nets or anything this season... |
foreverendeared
04.23.11 | I have to say, I like Blake a bit better than Farmar. I watched the Lakers a lot in the first half of the season, and I watch probably 40-45 Laker games every year and i must say, they are extremely similar to last year's team in every way, and, in my opinion, very much improved. |
AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | I would rather have Blake, Farmar would ask for more money for similar results. And yes it makes sense Farmar's numbers would be better while playing for the Nets. He'd logically see the ball more, be a bigger scoring option on that team compared to LA. |
foreverendeared
04.23.11 | Yes, Blake's role doesn't really require much out of him. |
foreverendeared
04.23.11 | He's much better at keeping the offense flowing than Farmar even if Farmar is a better scoring option. |
Metalstyles
04.23.11 | foreverendeared is right though, this year's Lakers are extremely similar to last year's. Besides, Blake is a more reliable defender in general than Farmar is and Barnes is a solid hustler who can take some pressure off Artest, so I would definitely count that as upgrading the bench. All Lakers need to do is hope Bynum can stay healthy and they're good to go. |
AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | also Farmar looks like a retarded weasel.
I don't want that representing my team. |
foreverendeared
04.23.11 | "also Farmar looks like a retarded weasel.
I don't want that representing my team."
I want to "like" this
"How can anyone say Blake makes the offense flow better when he's barely a part of it?"
It's just something you'll noticed when he is running the floor, he's better at getting the offense moving than Farmar. He's a slightly better passer, he's not looking to shoot as much as Farmar (which is a big point because the Laker's offense doesn't need the point guard to score any points for its offense to be effective and run like it should), and he's faster and a slightly better ball handler. |
AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | and you seem to do the exact same thing except the Heat have only 1 title :' ( OH NOES.
< 3 ya buddeh. You've made my lunch break fun. Peace pit. |
Metalstyles
04.23.11 | Well yeah but the Lakers don't need Barnes to shoot anyway, Pit. They've got Kobe, Pau, Bynum, Brown, Fisher and Artest for that. And Barnes definitely plays gritty D and can get into his opposition's head. Blake can very well run Lakers' offense WHEN he's a part of it, and luckily for them, he's the type of point guard who doesn't necessarily need heavy minutes to get into the game groove (ahem, as opposed to my beloved Magic and their Gilbert Arenas). Also, what foreverendeared said about Blake. |
AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | Farmar is faster and has better form to the basket but I still think Blake is a better team player. Farmar was always too concerned with Jordan Farmar. |
AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | "Everyone does realize that if the Celtics don't find a way to play defense and/or the Bulls can't find anyone on that roster to take some of the pressure off of Rose, they won't be much more than a speed bump for the Heat on their way to the finals."
shut the fuck up Pit.
and also I dont think anyone else has guaranteed anything except you guaranteeing no one will beat The Heat. |
foreverendeared
04.23.11 | Farmar has a much bigger role on the Nets than Blake has on the Lakers. Of coarse his stats are going to be a bit higher, but despite that, you're missing the fact that the laker's triangle offense does not require the point guard to be a scorer. That's just a fact, you can hear Phil Jackson saying the same thing all the time when he is defending Derick Fisher. |
Metalstyles
04.23.11 | Farmar is a faster runner/cutter, Blake is a smoother dribbler. There you go, Pit. |

04.23.11 | You think if the point guard position mattered at all to the Lakers offense, with all the money they have, they wouldn't get a better point guard than Derek Fisher? Seriously, it's not an important role AT ALL for the Lakers. |
AggravatedYeti
04.23.11 | "I'd love to be able to pick it apart and show you the sarcasm in it, because even though it was blatantly obvious to everyone else, you seem to have missed it...."

04.23.11 | "You think if the point guard position mattered at all to the Lakers offense, with all the money they have, they wouldn't get a better point guard than Derek Fisher? Seriously, it's not an important role AT ALL for the Lakers."
Don't be silly, of course it is an important position for them. Just, when they can win on a constant basis with Derek leading the offense, why change that? Team chemistry is so underrated by many, and is not something that should be constantly played with. |
Metalstyles
04.23.11 | Also, fuck editing in lists. My pretty format :( |
foreverendeared
04.23.11 | Okay, I was being a bit sarcastic when I said the position didn't matter AT ALL, but seriously, Phil Jackson himself has said on a number of occasions that the point guard doesn't need to score at all for the offense to run efficiently. Really, anyone that can handle the ball and make a decent pass can play the point effectively for the triangle offense to run smoothly. |
Metalstyles
04.23.11 | True that, and besides, I've constantly agreed with you on Blake being a solid back-up and a good floor general, so there's that. |
foreverendeared
04.23.11 | Yeah and I agree that the chemistry with Fisher is really important. It's not enough to be able to fill that role, but to know exactly how you fit in it is very important as well. |
cirq
04.23.11 | rondo went off last nite.. so did paul and rayray tho

Inveigh
04.23.11 | all point guards need to do in the triangle is defend, not turn it over and hit the open 3 (i.e. play within the offense and team defense concepts). Blake is far better for that role than Jordan Farmar, who is pretty fucking mistake prone, especially in the playoffs. It's also why they've been rolling with Fisher since the 90s.
The reason the Heat have looked so damn solid in the first round (aside from having two future HoFers and Chris Bosh actually playing well), is that the Sixers are the PERFECT match-up for them. For two reasons.
1.) the Heat are at their absolute best when they can go up against a team that struggles in the half court (i.e. Philly, because they're a transition team) -- the reason being that the Heat use their stellar half-court man defenders (Bron, Wade, and yes, Joel Anthony) to force turnovers and start their own fast break -- which is their major strength on offense. They're not great against teams that defend well in the half court because their offense is 90% isolation.
2.) The Heat dominate teams (especially mediocre ones) that's strengths are their perimeter players. Because the Heat have the best 2-3-4 players in the NBA in Wade, Bosh and Bron. The Sixers' strength is their 2-3-4 players (i.e. Iggy, Thad Young, Elton Brand and Jrue Holiday -- he's really more of a 2 in their offense than a PG if you watch him). The Sixers are weak at the 1 and 2 with Lou Williams and Spencer Hawes, and are therefore unable to exploit the Heat's weaknesses. The Bulls, Magic and Celtics all present infinitely harder matchups for the Heat.
This also explains why the Heat struggled against the Celtics, Bulls, Spurs and Magic in the regular season, but fared comparitively better against the Lakers. Especially considering that Bynum was either out or not at full strength when they played the Heat. The Lakers were/are dependent on their 2-3-4 players (Kobe, Artest/Barnes, Odom and Pau) and are still behind the Heat at those positions. They also struggled at times in their half court offensive sets this year, playing right into the Heat's transition-based offense.
However, Pit's right -- if the Bulls can't get better production out of Noah & Boozer and get the ball moving again in the half court, and if the Celtics can't get some solid post play out of the O'Neals, then the Heat will at the very least dominate a few games out of the series and possibly win them. |
