The most horrible thing that happened in Romania in the last 30 years. Aside from the fact that this wasn't a terrorist attack or anything (thank God), this was basically our 9/11.
| |
goodbye goodbye to gravity
Seriously tho this is terrible
| |
Yikes. What a horrible way to go.
| |
Jesus christ this is awful
Rest in Peace to all who died
| |
fuck
rip
| |
I'm confused as to what this incident has to do with Romanian political corruption.
RIP to all who've passed and thoughts to those surviving.
| |
Ah so the death toll has already reached this high, last time I read something it was 27 and speaking of the band only the two guitarists passed away.
Terrible, terrible event and situation as a whole for Romania.
| |
Someone on reddit made a big post about how corruption was tied into the fire. Something about regulation neglect iirc.
| |
holy shit this is an exact repeat of the great white station fire, i mean exactly 100% down to every circumstance
| |
Yeah, club owners bypassed some regulations regarding proper venue protection and the mayor of the district, who has recently resigned, did not care much either.
| |
Yes that is connected to why Victor Ponta quit. Apparently there was a poor security check system on old locals like the Colectiv.
| |
Poor is a much too friendly word. Non-existent maybe.
| |
Well I'm just copy pasting, but yeah.
| |
jesus christ, R.I.P
| |
They focused on the materials too. They did not use proper fire repentant sponges out of cost reasons.
| |
God damn. Rest in peace everyone
| |
Yes, some clubs have been closed and the number of victims will increase, cuz burn effects are highly unpredictable and can still be lethal, especially for those with the respiratory system affected...
| |
Some will, some really won't, unfortunately...
| |
This is horrible, rip to those lost
| |
What kind of club allows fireworks to be present at an indoor concert? God-awful stuff, thoughts to those affected...
| |
They were akin to what people would use on a cake in their homes... not proper pyrotechnics or whatever...
| |
Horrible... yeah apparently there wasn't proper regulation because business owners could just bypass it by bribing government officials. Probably not the only thing that led to this tragedy but obviously a factor.
| |
when articles get uncomfortably political
| |
This is horrifying, and of course this got political considering the disgusting circumstances it took place under
R.I.P. to everyone, sad news.
| |
just so fucking awful, rip to all involved
| |
I was flicking through the channels on the day that this happened and of course channel 4 news reported it in the most ham fisted way possible, calling them a "rock and roll" band and saying they were trampling on each other. Was getting into extremely uncomfortable Hillsborough territory.
| |
There's a reason I don't watch C4 news and this is it. They just want to be as controversial as possible without caring if they're disrespectful or not. RIP to all, this shouldn't have happened and the police inquiries that will follow will weed out those responsible.
| |
Of fucking course
| |
Holy crap, what a mess.
| |
All in all, roughly 200 people were affected from a total of 400 that were in the club. In the first hour, 20-27 died and 90 were in critical condition, with 1st degree burns.
| |
Are protests up? There should be a few at least
| |
they wouldn't make much of a a difference really, it'd play out the same way protests or not
| |
yeah shit's over, fucking sucks tho
| |
Yeah trying to change your country's corruption is pointless agreed
| |
what's with all this bad news lately
| |
Wow this is fucked.... RIP hard.
| |
still can't believe this...rip
| |
So many lives lost. RIP
| |
It reminds me of the Station Night Club Fire. Someone showed me that and it still haunts me. This must've been an absolutely hideous scenario, just an unimaginable tragedy. RIP.
'There's a reason I don't watch C4 news and this is it. They just want to be as controversial as possible without caring if they're disrespectful or not.' - thank fuck someone else agrees. I saw this as well and had to stop myself chucking something at the TV.
| |
yeah dude this situation is literally exactly like the station night club fire
| |
RIP hard, the fact this kinda stuff still happens in Europe scares me
people can protest all they want it won't change, some areas of the world are destined to always be corrupt
| |
That's such a sad way of seeing life. Look how far we've come, bro
| |
god is this awful, really sucks that shit like this still happens smh
| |
Holy shit. RIP.
| |
"some areas of the world are destined to always be corrupt."
Wat?
| |
"some areas of the world are destined to always be corrupt"
Only if the citizens remain completely complacent in the corruption. Of course, things won't always change, but to say it's just destiny is fucking stupid and defeatist.
Doubts that a status quo will change because of rebellion or protest isn't a reason to avoid action in the first place.
| |
uh no areas of the world are 'destined' to be corrupt. don't be daft.
| |
holy fuck, that's terrible
| |
damn
rip
| |
Pyrotechnics indoors have caused too many tragedies. Those should just be banned from nightclubs.
| |
I was just gonna say.. pyrotechnics in an enclosed venue just sounds like a recipe for disaster. What an awful thing to happen.
| |
fuck dude RIP
| |
These guys have brought fireworks in a club. They didn't have an authorized person to take care of them. Shit was bound to happen. But then again, corruption and huge taxes have prevented half of Romania's clubs to have all the safety measures in check. Most of the clubs would've been closed at some point.
At the moment we don't have anywhere to play in our country, which sucks bad.
| |
Jesus Christ, RIP. Hope that the bassist and vocalist can pull through.
| |
This is so crazy.... RIP guys
| |
Fucking horrific.
RIP

I do think this band had some promise to break out and play some European festivals such as Graspop, Hellfest etc. and they could've done quite well, but even if Alex and Andrei pull through I highly doubt they'll be able to perform again, even if they wanted to. A tragic end to a promising band. I do hope that no more people die though.
| |
Universal Music Romania are donating all proceeds from the new album to help the victims of the fire too, so even if it's not particularly your thing I do suggest buying it, if only to show support and provide a small donation to helping people recover or assist the mourning families of those who have died.
| |
R.I.P to those who died in such awful event.
People never learn from mistakes, do they?
| |
Never like to hear news like this. RIP and thoughts go out to their families.
| |
Can't help but think of that Great White fire video.
| |
That video made me cry not going to lie it was so gruesome
| |
wait, there's a video of this tragedy? I remember there was some other nightclub fire video; from right of beginning when all fire starts and you can clearly see how it happened. That person with a camera managed to get outside pretty quick and kept filming how the whole club perish in fire and smoke. You can hear screams coming from inside and then there's that moment when a burning person comes from the main entrance... Very depressive and hard to forget.
oh right, The Station nightclub fire.
| |
Tudor Golu, 28 year old guitarist of progressive/avant-garde group Axial Lead, was also in the audience. He died earlier today in hospital in Birmingham, UK
Laurențiu Vârlan was the Up to Eleven who died immediately in the fire. He was 30.
Adrian Rugină, 38, was drummer for Bocium and died trying to save others in the fire. He received a posthumous National Order of Merit (equivalent to a knighthood) in honour of his attempts to save others.
The youngest victim so far has been 15 year old Ștefan Hamed-Andrei, who died in his mother's arms outside the venue after being poisoned by the fumes.
| |
Yeah that video is used in fire department training to show how fast flames can engulf a building.
| |
RIP. This just keeps getting worse.
| |
It managed to overthrow the corrupt government though. That was cool.
| |
Bassist Alex Paşcu, who had 75% burns and had just been transferred to Paris for specialist treatment, passed away earlier today. Andrei is the only surviving member of the band now. And he has 45% burns, being treated in the Netherlands. It's absolutely heartbreaking. I just hope Andrei can pull through now.
| |
This is seriously so sad
Force for the victim's families
| |
Thought he was supposed to make it.
| |
Holy shit, all this makes me wanna cry.
| |
2 more casualties today, including Andrei Galut's girlfriend. 2 more teenagers passed away while being treated in the UK on Tuesday and Wednesday. Apparently at least 24 other people remain in critical conditions. This is the deadliest fire in Romania's history apparently. At least, deadliest incident since the end of Ceaușescu's reign.
| |
Jesus man, this is terrible to read about. This is such a tragedy.
This site is the only place I've heard anything about it too. All I see on CNN is news about the election, which I'm already sick of.
| |
The 1930 Costesti church fire was worse, but this is beyond awful anyway and casualty number keeps rising...
| |
You really have to feel for Andrei though, because even if he pulls through, he's had everything taken away from him. His friends, his career (I don't see him being able to keep singing after this), his girlfriend, it's all gone. It's absolutely devastating.
| |
I know... I've been wondering how aware he is of his acquaintances' situation right now... Awful feelings...
| |
Yeah the fire was overshadowed by the political stuff so I just keep checking music sites.
| |
This piece of news makes my heart ache... RIP.
| |
I've been listening to the album a lot this week. It's really good melodic metalcore, I would've definitely gone to see them in the UK if they'd ever toured here. Unfortunately that's never going to happen. I'd like to see a push to get the band the recognition they could've eventually got and I think buying the album will help that. The money's all going to charity anyway.
| |
I wonder if Andrei would actually be able to cope with everything if he pulls through
| |
@Dats Yeah, I guess I should try it out too. I've known them for a while cuz they're pretty liked in the local scene, but never delved into their material except some single. Then again, if I studied them more, I could've been there... and I'd rather not think about that...
| |
Yeah they're a bit like Rise to Remain's melodic metalcore, except better.
| |
That's an apt comparison, I suppose. Used to them a while in 11th grade or so, but GtG were either forming or I was competely oblivious to them, otherwise I'd have liked them a lot.
| |
Yeah GTG started in 2011, the year RTR released their only album.
| |
I heard that Andrei came out of his coma, but they're keeping him anesthetized into Oblivion pretty much perpetually, and keeps asking about his girlfriend. This shit is breaking my heart.
| |
Indeed, the shock he will have when all details are unveiled to him...
| |
Yeah only Romanian sources are reporting it but it's true. It's devastating because you can't just tell him bluntly, as it may affect his will to keep fighting. He will obviously have to find out sooner or later but it's such a delicate issue, but he's going to be asking for his girlfriend throughout his recovery, not knowing that she's not going to come back.
