hyped for the new album
| |
:cooldab:
| |
Production is dope, good sign
| |
New white extremity is going to sound so good with this production
| |
I love everything about this song. Fucking awesome guitar riffs. ;)
| |
God damn, the bass is sexy as fuck. This sounds great.
| |
Song is absolutely fucking phenomenal
| |
Are we about to witness a rare high quality reunion album? All fingers crossed.
| |
I mean its not even a reunion
| |
It's great. Sounds like Daryl's voice has gotten even better. The chorus is super smooth and memorable. I'm impressed because at some points in his career, Palumbo has sounded super eccentric but it seems like he's been working on his vocals or something. I haven't listened in a while so maybe I'm out of the loop. Maybe some of the HXC fans can correct me and condescend me. Kidding. Glassjaw fans are pretty chill mostly. Except the entitled ones are kind of annoying but yeah.
| |
Pretty good!
| |
I think I have listened to this literally 100 times today. Holy fuck this album is going to slay.
| |
Everybody buy the album when it comes out. They may seem like a big band online but they're pretty small and DIY. Plus the singer probably has massive medical debt.
| |
Yoda was racist
| |
'legendary' lol
| |
great track
| |
love it
| |
And the album drops in less than a week? Fuck yes.
| |
Wow looks like gj is going to make new music
AFTERALLLLL
AF TER ALLLLLLLLLL
| |
Song is cool.
| |
I was wondering whyat king of song could receive so much praise. I clicked. Deftones sound-alike. Ah ok. Sputnik.
| |
Song is great yeah.
| |
Nice.
| |
Huh this sounds vaguely shoegazy
| |
@Gyro you are so annoyingly one-note unpleasant lol
Anyways I caved and listened to a bit of the shitty rip leak going around, album is super heavy with all the groove from Coloring Book bolstering it, idk if I could want anything else from them
| |
awful drums
Sounds like a royalty free drum loop off freesounds.com
| |
SOLID, liked the bass groove a lot
| |
"'legendary' lol"
Goddamn right they are
| |
Man, this song is awesome. Sounds like something I would have definitely listened to back when I was deep into this kind of music. Very Deftones-esque.
| |
@owen Yeah I agree and I do hope to hear better drumming in the other songs. I also think that Daryl's vocals sound low in some parts of the mix. Besides that it still bangs hard imo.
| |
Yeah, wasn't Billy Rymer tracking drums for this? I'd expect a lot more out of him. Song still owns, though.
| |
Yeah it's Billy. I really hope this album leaks today. >.
| |
"I was wondering whyat king of song could receive so much praise. I clicked. Deftones sound-alike. Ah ok. Sputnik."
You say that as if it's a bad thing
| |
Really digging this song, new album is gonna be great
| |
anymore glassjaw comparisons to deftones and some IP bans are in order
| |
DAAAYUMMN this is great
| |
u n l e a s h
| |
Dayum. So I guess newer Glassjaw is the stuff to listen to. This track fucking rules.
| |
Bass is obviously the best part of this.
| |
SCHWING
| |
yeah sowing - they got good when they dropped colouring book and it looks like they're going to continue with that trend which is great
| |
great song, not at all what I remember this band sounding like when i first heard them. actually looking forward to this now
| |
Sounds pretty damn good. Sounds like a more refined version of their old stuff. Very excited for this.
| |
The song is great but the drums do suck.
| |
It's a good song but not especially great
| |
Loving these guitar tones, and that riff that gets thrown in at the end was sweet. Solidified my hopes for the album
| |
Was not ready for that bass
| |
I had no idea what to expect, but this pretty much blew me away. Love the chorus.
| |
good stuff!
| |
glad to hear the bass makes the track cuz thats literally how ive felt about all their more recent stuff. stoked
| |
never mind i didnt like that much
| |
Repetitive drumming, but I doubt the album will all be that way. Other than the drumming this is definitely glassjaw at their best. Hype
| |
I didn't like that much [2] but the bass was still good.
| |
I'm going to try to walk into this album without any expectations whatsoever, especially since the hype for this is already staggering, but the two songs released so far have sounded pretty badass. The critique of the drums is valid though, though it doesn't really impact the song for me.
| |
I literally typed "the critique of the drums is valid" for my previous comment but ended up rephrasing. Wdf
| |
@pjorn
| |
I guess i should finally check out this cum-soaked band.
| |
Calling this a deftones sound alike is like saying __ meat tastes like chicken
| |
Idk how repetitive drumming is supposed to equal bad drumming, esp. when the guitars are obviously supposed to be at the forefront of the song while the drums play in the pocket.
| |
For real tho beck is wild on this song
| |
Aight so a band that hasn't done anything in years drops a new song, thread gets 60 comments and thats some how considered a circle jerk? Gtfo outta here
| |
You take it easy
| |
song is fucking great
| |
The hype is alive dudes
| |
why hire the drummer from dep and have him play the most basic boring beats
anyways the song slays tho
| |
Brb making a 1k comment thread on jesse laceys decade old sexual escapades
| |
Fap fap fap
| |
Love this song. The chorus bass kills it, and I don't see the big deal with the drums, they fit the song just fine and sit right in that pocket groove with the bass. Don't worry there's a ton of great drumming parts on this album, especially Golgotha, Pompeii, and Bibleland 6.
| |
dude wait a sec on second listen that ending riff is totally a sons of abraham riff. cool shit.
| |
don't really understand the excitement, this song is simply not interesting
| |
turnstile could have made this song lmao
| |
*ignore (misclick)*
| |
wow doomes you should rate some albums so I can be immature and try to destroy your credibility by pointing out specific ratings that the average sputnikmusic user would disagree with
| |
Yeah I hadn't heard turnstile before but I just listened and you're out of ur damn mind my friend
| |
track!!!
| |
aoty incoming
| |
I agree with Evan. This song is incredibly constructed and it's a FACT
| |
nah dude
song is an okay "comeback" type of song but it's probably going to be the worst song on Material Control. Considering the new Converge was garbage, this can't be much worse.
| |
Yeah it will be the weakest because of the drumming. Every other parts of the instrumentation on this track sounds classic with talent.
| |
Plus, it just doesn't have that kind of "grab" their songs usually have. It doesn't capture my attention and ebbs and flows mostly - not exactly the band at their finest, but far from terrible.
| |
I can see what you mean there. I wanted Daryl to scream and sing louder at parts of the song. I do believe his vocals were meant to match the style of the song though. The other songs should be more hardcore like tip your bartender hopefully.
| |
Monster of a tune
| |
"Calling this a deftones sound alike is like saying __ meat tastes like chicken "
Sorry, man. Having never listened to the band extensively before this, that's the first thing that came to mind, and even after repeated listens, the comparison sticks. The tone of the guitars calls to mind some song by Deftones (maybe "Elite?"), and the overall atmosphere that the song exudes when I listen to it reminds me of 'White Pony'--I get the same feelings that I do when I play that record late at night. It really makes me excited for this new record.
| |
More of a NYHC / Long Island post-hardcore sound than Deftones imo, although I would say there's a big Chino influence in Daryl's vocals. And Deftones has been influenced by a lot of the bands that inspired glassjaw (Quicksand).
| |
^ this man gets it
| |
never seen so much bitching about drumming before.
| |
Yeah colouring book sounds a lot like deftones too. I'd much rather they rip off deftones than continue making shitty music tho
| |
it's the sputnikmusic hivemind effect
| |
haha yeah man thats what this is
| |
song is ok. def better than new atdi
| |
haha yeah man
| |
Gyro the lone glassjaw hater. Lol
| |
Never been huge into the band but I will definitely be listening to the album. This is groovy as hell.
| |
Guitar tone sounds so nice.
| |
Only hate their early days when they were making terrible music
| |
good song but I hope there will be more screams on the rest of the album. Daryl's unhinged vocals are what make their older releases for me
| |
The only people defending the drums here are people who think Glassjaw are incapable of doing any wrong. Use your ears, there is absolutely nothing creative or interesting about hitting a symbol three times and then the snare the exact same way for the entirety of the song.
| |
Implying that every element of a song needs to be creative for it to be a good song... Music isn't about individual parts, it's about counterpoint and how it all comes together. The drums aren't doing anything extraordinary, but they tie the song together nicely.
| |
Use your ears, there is absolutely nothing creative or interesting about hitting a symbol three times and then the snare the exact same way for the entirety of the song.
Do you have a fucking point? Are you expecting a revolution within every song you hear?
| |
"The only people defending the drums here are people who think Glassjaw are incapable of doing any wrong."
Nah. I can appreciate extraordinary drums in a band, but ordinary drums work just fine as well, as long as the song on the whole is awesome.
| |
Due to daryls unique vox ive never understood the deftones comparisons and im a huge deftones fan
| |
there's no comparison at all between em ye
point me to where Chino Moreno and the Deaf Tones released anything like Coloring Book, Stuck Pig, Oxycodone, Two Tabs etc etc
| |
Its an embarrassing reach IMO
| |
I personally don't understand the hype, but I have no musical expertise so I can't speculate. I'm just trying to listen out side of the box and discover something other bands aren't doing or something original, and I'm not hearing anything special.
| |
Glassjaw owe a lot more stylistically to Stillsuit, Burn, Vision of Disorder, Quicksand and Mind Over Matter than they do Deftones. The 'Tones didn't invent slow groovy textural heavy music
| |
@rex
*facepalm*
| |
he's right though
| |
sounds like a b-side from Deftones' Around the Fur, I dig it
| |
Things happened in my pants after listening to this. Holysh
| |
Your opinion holds no water. Lol
| |
based on?
| |
The drums are perfect and complement the groove. It's even more impressive that it's Billy, guy obviously knows when to show restraint.
| |
Did they replace their drummer and bassist?
| |
The bassist and drummer left in '15. The drummer and bassist from Glass Cloud are in the band now, but Billy Rhymer tracked drums for at least part of this album (such as this song)
| |
awesome song 4.5/5, only complain7 i have is 7he song ended.
| |
Usually have to keep my fingers crossed for comeback albums but all the stuff I've heard seems to be adding up to another great record
| |
@owen you're saying that this song is nothing special and that's a very ignorant and biased statement man...
I see a hell of a lot more people in this comment section loving this tune and giving reasons on why it sounds so good. Drums don't really ruin a song if the guitar and bass dominate it with talented riffing.
| |
Song does really well on repeat, the ending basically goes right into the intro
| |
and just like that glassjaw are back on the posthxc throne dilly dilly
| |
oh no
| |
The Deftones comparison is an obvious one. Not vocally obviously
| |
Song is alright. Hopefully the record is good.
| |
Band have posted 3 more song teasers on their instagram and they all sound great
| |
Anyone know about plans to release this in vinyl? I want to pre-order but I'd muchh rather have a vinyl
| |
There's plans for a vinyl according to some GJN heads who've spoken to Daryl
| |
dammit just leak already
| |
[2]
| |
i've never hoped for an album to leak so badly. i've been listening to shira on repeat for a day now.
| |
Why y'all talking about a leak when it comes out Friday?
| |
Because people have been waiting for 15 years, it's agonizing
| |
I can handle a few more days.
| |
15 years? Are we excluding Our Color Green and Coloring Book?
| |
I think most people do, so they can say they've been waiting 15 years for an LP. They're not wrong, though Coloring Book and OCG were both phenomenal, to be sure.
| |
This should've leaked by now. Grr. -_-
| |
You kids and your need for instant gratification.
| |
Got my shit preordered, roll on friday!
| |
The 2 eps are my favorite releases of theirs but having a fully fleshed out LP is something else entirely imo
| |
oh i already have it pre ordered. i just want to listen to it so bad.
| |
Is Friday here yet? I'm gonna lose my shit when I get to hear this
| |
How much y'all wanna bet that when they do decide to release it on vinyl that it'll be super limited and super expensive?
| |
I'll bet you 1 Material Control vinyl
| |
Sorry dude, can't empty my savings account like that
| |
Anyone going to the 12/1 show? Gonna be sick af
| |
Couldn't snag tickets. Will haunt me forever
| |
They did say tickets might become available throughout the week, worth checking it every now and then.
| |
LEAKED
| |
holy shit that was really good
| |
production sounds nice n thick
| |
T H I C C
| |
How many reviews will we see for this tomorrow, do you think?
| |
The bass on strange hours T_T
| |
Wow this is tight
| |
Pretty amazing considering they basically just banged this out over the course of a few weekends. Bibleland 6 is a fucking monster of a groove.
| |
Billy Rymer groovin behind de kit
| |
Wow they really just went and fucked up the whole game with closer. Soty.
| |
