Hope no one from our community was caught up in this

Terrible news, RIP to the deceased and here's to a speedy recovery for everyone injured.

Fucking horrible. Just trying to have a good time after a long week at work and then this bullshit happens.
I don’t have much else to say. I hope all of those injured make it home okay. Truly tragic.

nature is metal
|

makes a joke about people dying and doesn’t even have the decency to have it be funny
|
| |
What a fucking tragedy. The weather conditions last night in some areas of IL were no joke. Got a notification that winds were 90 mph in some areas and to shelter in place. I hope everyone can make a quick and full recovery, RIP to the person who lost their life. Just awful, awful stuff
|
| |
god that's fuckin scary. Hope everyone injured recovers quickly and best wishes to the family of the one fatality

Rest in peace, how horrible

|
| |
hmmm... feel like a Cannibal Corpse show would've been more fitting... or maybe Exhumed
|
| |
To think I saw them the night before this happened... absolutely fucking tragic. Wishing for a speedy recovery for those injured and RIP to the person who's life was cut short.
|
| |
@sharenge, if you're going to go there then you may as well say that building was constructed with morbid angles
|
| |
I know there probably aren't many places to go in a venue like that but I hope this causes other venue operators to review their severe weather protocols, if those exist. The tornado warning for Belvidere came out several minutes before the storm hit the town.
|
| |
Some guy I follow on and speak to sometimes on IG was there , got out and stayed around helping people out saw some videos and stuff this morning , So grim
|
| |
Absolutely horrifying : (
|
| |
tornado watches all over the country have been nuts lately. RIP.
|
| |
such an awful thing to transpire
|
| |
What an awful tragedy!
|
| |
That’s scary as shit. Please excuse my ignorance, but how was no one aware of a tornado coming? They don’t happen where I live so I know very little about them, but I would assume there would be severe weather warnings and such, no?
|
| |
you kind of get numb to the severe weather warnings, that is to say you cant really change your life or plans every time there is a tornado warning because this time of year there are many such warnings. most cities and towns have sirens and thats a good indicator to take shelter, but many folks wait until they can see them to do anything. at a show like that folks probably didn't take the warning seriously-i never have either-and the tornado happened to hit that area unfortunately and likely without much warning. tough to tell where theyre going to go and what theyre going to do. just a terrible tragedy. user storm in a teacup could probably give even better info on them as he's in Oklahoma and that place gets hammered by them.
|
| |
Damn that’s wild. Out here we get severe weather alerts for a bit of snow a couple times a year and everyone acts like it’s the apocalypse. This really puts things into perspective.
|
| |
I suspect the Canadian news isnt the constant drama click bait machine like ours is. we get avalanche warnings daily here during the winter-no one takes them seriously-myself included. I swear there have been a dozen this year. Mother Nature reminds you quickly whos boss
|
| |
You do realize those people are devil worshippers. The group that played there, it's devil music. Think about why just that place was destroyed. The people who were there shouldn’t have been…Even the bands, the bands shouldn’t be traveling the country singing satanic songs. They totally make themselves vulnerable to the attacks of the devil who is out to steal, kill, and destroy.

rip to that one metalhead m/
terrible thing, gonna crack open a cold one for them tonight m/

Copy that, but I think that something has to be said about the resilience of buildings to natural disasters.
Where I live - Greece, a seismic country with an increasing rate of natural disasters, irrespective of season - most rock/metal venues, routinely situated on metropolitan outskirts, are derelict structures, but when I compare them to some US live venues as they appear in live/photo footage, domestic live halls seem as full blown mansions.

| |
My heart goes out to everyone affected. What a tragedy. The reporter in the first vid was very sensible he genuinely felt sorry for her. I wish a speedy recovery to everyone injured physically and mentally and rest in power to the metalhead who died m/

| |
Correct Pots, the tornado watch came out for all of northern Illinois a few hours prior and then the tornado warning was issued for that particular storm once it looked like a tornado was imminent. Belvidere was included in the warning as the storm was to their southwest and thus gave them some advance notice. (5 to 10 minutes?)
That's when venues need to have some sort of plan. Plus you ain't gonna hear the sirens in a place like that, and sirens are only meant to be heard for when you're outside anyway.
|
| |
Yeah I mean 5 to 10 minutes definitely isn’t enough to do much with a crowded venue, especially for a tornado where evacuation is not the answer. Like aren’t you supposed to go to a basement where possible? I doubt a lot of venues even have basements, and if they do they aren’t fitting an entire full venues worth of people down there in 5 to 10 minutes.
|
| |
i've witnessed something like this before. a tornado hit a venue in norman, oklahoma that i was attending. the venue rumbled and the power went out, but the band onstage handled coordinating people where to go well. it was nonetheless terrifying and i cant imagine what it would be like to be someone's final moments. RIP
|
| |
They wanted a wall of death but they got the roof of death instead
Don’t crucify me for the joke, RIP to the fatality this is terrifying and awful
|
| |
Basements are great if you've got them (for homes), but yeah, there isn't an easy answer if you've got a venue like that. I have to imagine that something is better than just carrying on like normal though. Get people into hallways maybe? Like US schools do in tornado drills.
|
| |
there was a major tornado outbreak going on with this, it's probably fortunate this was a weak one since it could've been much worse
|
| |
Haha I liked the joke Potsy, cracked me up
|
| |
Jesus potsy lol
|
| |
'Don’t crucify me for the joke, RIP to the fatality this is terrifying and awful'...
I was gonna say something about how their performance must've 'brought the house down' but idk after reading the article it doesn't feel right - hmm, still sort of did
RIP. Crazy that people live with these extreme weather conditions and just going out can be a threat to life. Terrible. Being a Brit we just get warnings about a light dusting of snow or 'high winds' which aren't actually anything to be worried about, unless your rambling through woods / forests or something.
|
| |
One thing’s for sure — the roof was not raised.
Yeah this sucks
