Review Summary: This album is very dark for it's time
In my opinion, this has to be one of the greatest EP's ever. It's got speed, darkness, evil, little to no ***ing around and great lyrics. I discovered this album when I was 16 and my music tastes became way pickier when I heard it. Tom's vocals are amazing and the drumming is ***ing awesome. Grave Violator's guitar tone was absolutely fantastic. I think everyone who is true should hear this album.
1. Outbreak of Evil - The song starts out with a pretty warlike intro. The fast strumming is great, although the little solo after that never really caught my attention. Actually, while I was walking to school I would usually fast forward past that part so I would have time to listen to the other tracks on the album. The main riff in this song is amazing and very catchy. The lyrics are less thought out but they are well written. The drumming in this track is very catchy and the solo near the end is in my opinion, incredible. Which is saying alot because I'm not usually the kind of guy that digs solos. Tom's yells and grunts sound great and the outro is awesome. It's my second favorite track on the album.
2. Sepulchral Voice - Honestly, I still consider this to be one of my favorite songs of all time. It starts out very dark and hellish with Tom quietly groaning. It starts with the chorus riff that gives you the feeling that doom is near. The main riff of this song is absolutely incredible. It's simple, fast, catchy and makes you want to headbang until you feel like a complete retard. The lyrics are phenomenal. They are dark, well thought out, and you can tell that at that time, Tom was just too true. The entire song itself gives the feeling that you are ultimately damned to go to Hell. The chorus even though repetitive, gives a clear message of doom. The drum fills during the chorus are absolutely bellowing. It's pure power. The song ends with that amazing riff with no vocals so you can hear it in it's entirety. More than likely, I'm definitely having this track play at my funeral
3. Blasphemer - This song, though it's very cheesy, is awesome. I don't like the random laughing, but his vocals are great and the chorus riff is amazing. The lyrics are more on the goofy side, but that's metal for you.
4. Witching Metal - This song never stuck out too much for me, but I love it none the less. The main riff is very catchy and powerful. Lyric wise, I think Tom was just thinking metal and kind of just wrote it without giving it too much thought. Again, probably my least favorite track next to blasphemer, but still great songs.
5. Burst Command Till War - This track is fantastic. The riff is very fast and catchy and the vocals are insane. I think he did a very good job at writing this track and explaining what he thinks of war. For 1984, these vocals were mostly unheard of and I suspect a few people *** their pants in the process of hearing it.
Again, anyone that is true to metal should definitely hear this album. It's fast, catchy, and genius.
