I almost completely disagree with the opinions of
the gentlemen below. It's a refreshing album that
gets way better with the third to fourth listen.
Also the guy that criticised Nocturno's vocals has
obviously never listened to Celtic Frost, because
if he had, he would have realised that it's
Nocturno's way of paying tribute to one of their
main
influences. Also this vocal style is not even
present to every song. Regarding the album it's by
far the most melodic piece they've released to
date. This isn't necessarily a good or a bad
thing. It's refreshing seeing that distinct Celtic
Frostish sound of darkthrone getting that melodic
hue. I have to agree on something with the rest of
the guys though, the last track feels a bit
rushed. It does have one of the best parts of the
whole album during the end, but there are also a
lot of mediocre riffs that were completely
unnecessary. Nevertheless it's a good album.
Definitely inferior to eternal hails but still a
good album.

There isn't much difference from this to previous 2 albums. Even if not as consistent, the high tracks are kind of stronger, or at least have a bigger feel to them. Big fan of the closer, I guess I'm in the minority.

For the moment I am liking this a lot more than Astral Fortress. Time will tell of it holds up!

Some of the criticism of this album surprises me a little, but I'm new to the band. They didn't start out Doom and their new material is a slow disappointment? Maybe Fenriz is getting his need for speed by DJ'ing House music these days. Also, a'la Electric Wizard, Doom riffs are probably more fun to play when stoned than thrashier ones. Anyway the riffs on this album sound like they'd be a kick in the ass to play after one or two -- but maybe not nine or ten -- bong hits. Don't know if that's their poison, though. Certainly booze would also fit the bill

Darkthrone continue their post-2010s approach of delivering records full of old-school doom, black, and heavy metal riffs, but this time the riffs are accompanied by monotone song structures.

Some good riffs on here, last track is probably my favorite, bunch of cool sections in that one. Overall fairly slow and dare i say boring.

First two tracks are some of their worst songs... With "Black Dawn Affiliation" it gets better (actually this is the best song on the album, by far) and remains consistently great until the end of "The Bird People Of Nordland". But again, the album closer duo of "The Heavy Hand" & "The Lone Pines Of The Lost Planet" really kills the mood... Honestly, more than the half of the album feels unfinished, tired and flat. The very old-school production can't save this from being disastrous. Biggest disappointment of the recent years.

After over 30 years of existence, Darkthrone has finally put out their first stinker. A few good riffs but they're few and far between. Not to mention good ole Nocturno Culto's vox here are absolute dog shit. Just a very boring and stale album all together.
