6 of 10 thought this review was well written

What more can you say about Cannibal Corpse? They have accomplished more than any other death metal band in history. That is why I was confused to see that nobody has written a review to this death metal classic. Cannibal Corpse started out with Chris barnes-Vocals, Jack Owen-Guitar, Bob Rusay-Guitar, Alex Webster-Bass, and Paul Mazurkiewicz-Drums. They had released a demo in 1989 with many of the songs on this album on it. This is the album that started it all so gather 'round and let me tell you the tale of the first cannibal Corpse album.

Liner Notes: Eaten back to Life was recorded by Scott Burns in Florida in 1990. Cover art by Vincent Locke.

TRACKLIST:
1. Shredded Humans
2. Edible Autopsy
3. Put Them To Death
4. Mangled
5. Scattered Remains, Splattered Brains
6. Born In A Casket
7. Rotting Head
8. The Undead Will Feast
9. Bloody Chunks
10. A Skull Full Of Maggots
11. Buried In The Backyard

1. Shredded Humans - 4.5/5
This track is about a family of five on their way home, when a craized murder comes and puts an end to their lives. It is a pretty long song for Corpse standards clocking in at 5:11. A great intro with a great chorus and song structure makes for a great song, and that is exactly what this is. Great opener for a great album.

2. Edible Autopsy - 5/5
My personal favorite song on this album. Heavy and catchy as hell. It starts off with no vocals until 1:27 into the song. Then all hell breaks loose with the great vocal job of Chris barnes. The best song on the album, worth a listen to any metal fan.

3. Put Them to Death - 4/5
Another great song that is about how Cannibal Corpse supports the death penalty. It kind of says that in the title, so it kind of gives it away. A reletively short song at 1:48. The great line from this song is, F*** You and your Kind!!! Great Song.

4. Mangled - 3.5/5
This song is nothing real special, but still good. The chorus is pretty catchy and that's it. It kind of drags on because it stays the same speed throughout the whole song. The song clocks in at 4:29. Good but not great.

5. Scattered Remains, Splattered Brains - 4.5/5
What? Another classic? Yes another corpse classic that has the best intro instrumentals of any song that corpse has made, and they have been around for almost 20 years.
Lyrics: Hack, slice, chop, carve, rip and tear
Carving up your eyeballs, watch them sit and stare
Tear, rip, slice, carve, chop, hack
Toss them into a sack
Great Stuff!

6. Born in a Casket - 4.5/5
It just keeps getting better. Another classic off this album. A great intro that lasts a while. It is a song very similar to Edible Autopsy. The lyrics don't come in until 1:09 into the song. Overall a great song with great catchiness. Clocks in at 3:19.

7. Rotting Head - 3/5
The only downfall to this album. It isn't the greatest song, but descent at best. By far the worst song on the album. It is the stereotypical Cannibal Corpse song that lacks something, I can't figure it out though.

8. The Undead Will Feast - 4/5
This track starts off very fast, some of the fastest lyrics to ever come out of chris Barnes' mouth. Great song that in the Worm Infested EP, they did a remake of this song with "Corpsegrinder" singing. Overall good song.

9. Bloody Chunks - 3.5/5
Another song that isn't that great. Although it is still good, like Rotting Head, it lacks something that the other songs have on this album. Another short song that clocks in at 1:53. Still a good song that is worth a listen or two.

10. A Skull Full of Maggots - 5/5
The second best song on the album is probably the most popular song off this album. DEICIDE's Glen Benton sings the back-up vocals on this song. This song to this day is still being played live.
Lyrics: They enter your tomb - maggots - beginning to feast - maggots
Crawling on you - maggots - now they eat you - maggots
Rotting maggots - maggots - infesting your corpse - maggots
Parasites of the dead - maggots - now dwell in your head
Great/classic song.

11. Buried in the Backyard - 4/5
This is the longest song on the album at 5:12. Another long intro adds to the length of this song. Another good, but mot great song. Great lyrics of another short little horror story. Listen for yourself, you won't be dissapointed. Kind of draggs on and on a little bit in the intro though.
Lyrics: To kill, is why I live
My God, gives eternal life
Slice you, i watch your blood flow
Rotten brains, I feed 'till I'm full
Pressure building, the body starts to swell

Conc. Their first might just be their best. A definite classic for the Death Metal genre and worth a listen for any fans of Metal. Just give them a chance and you might like them and this album. That is what I did and now this is my favorite Death Metal album of all time. Yes even better than Tomb of the Mutilated and Butchered at Birth.

Not a bad review. Like Thor said, more detail would be nice. But for one of your first ones not bad.

For further reviews, avoid track by tracks all together since only a handful of people seem to do it well. If you want to do a track by track, describe the song overall. What did you like and not like about the track? What's your favourite part of the song? Describe that. What's the overall feeling or atmosphere of the song? There's so much more you can put in other than "Oh yeah, it's decent, got a nice guitar riff somewhere". If you do an overall though then that would be best as all the main writers on the site write overalls. If you do decide to do one then I'll help you out then.

I just wonder why you feel the need to critisize other peoples music. I don't go to your favorite music and judge or criticise them. Try to be more open-minded. You don't have to like this album or band, but be respectfull to others and their tastes in music.

I'm not a huge CC fan, but this review could benefit from a bit more detail. For instance, try describing maybe the atmosphere of the song, or describe the guitarwork (brash, serene, etc). This Message Edited On 01.01.07

He wasn't really disrepecting your taste in music. It's not like he said "You suck for liking this". He just expressed that he, as an individual, didn't like it.

dude comeon you gave it a 5. To be considered a 5 i think it has to be likable to more than just the fans of a certain genre.

Yes, it is. I only commented after reading the review and reading those lyrics. I don't like metal and I never, ever comment about it, but those lyrics, bloody hell that is some full on stuff. But again, I don't want to pass judgement or start arguments or anything, I have no interest in that. You like it, that's fine. Just that if I read a review often I will comment on it. Anyway, enjoy this, I'll leave you be.
