Lungs is great but this really is just on another level. Hearing lots of Arcade Fire on the baroque tracks here?

Yeah this is absolutely stacked and yet any one of these b-sides would’ve been a highlight here

Literally it feels like she decidedly had to limit the number of showstoppers lol

it's weird i've always thought that florence was just ok at best but the new album is actually excellent and is definitely the best thing they've done

nah this record is very hard to digest as an album, it's just too overblown.

It's funny because I think this is the epitome of the band's appeal - dark grandiose pop-rock has always sorta been their calling card.

The new one is far less concerned with huge choruses and is centered around percussive elements. I enjoy that, but I think I need the memorable melodies to tie it all together and DF only has a few IMO.

That description actually makes the new one sound more my speed. I haven't really listened to them much before but you've convinced me, Sowing.

"dark grandiose pop-rock has always sorta been their calling card."

I guess that's true, although Lungs was a grab bag of all sorts of things, some which landed and some which really didn't. I felt this record was more consistent but it sort of bludgeons you into submission with its turned up to 11ness - if that's what you're looking for it's perfect. The new one is recognizably them but it's not so emotionally one note-ish.

@Joe: Yeah I think Dance Fever is easily the least concerned they've ever been with sounding huge. The entire thing sort of toes the line between tribal percussion and danceable beats but somehow without ever really being super catchy lol.

@fog: Pretty much agreed yeah. I'm not a huge Lungs fan for the reasons you mentioned...always found it to be pretty hit-or-miss. My preferences in most types of music reside with wanting everything to be as epic as possible, so your characterization of Ceremonials and my 5/5 score makes perfect sense.

I like percussion a lot so maybe that might be more my speed even if it's less big and catchy.
