Huh. You learn something new everyday!
“danny brown is probably in some '90s skinamarink-ass looking living room rn sitting on the carpet in his underwear eating cookie crisp and watching teletubbies”
I always wanted to try that Tubby Custard. Sprinkle some Cookie Crisp on that and end up on Iron Chef

think overall the biggest problem with rym is their vote weighting system doesn't really account for their userbase seemingly doubling in size over the past couple years, causing releases from the past few years in particular to jump the charts not so much cause they're "better" but because they have more votes than everything else
like this album is already the #30 hip hop album of all time over there like ten days after release, and will prob be top 15ish by year end. its already ahead of + has more votes than miseducation of lauryn hill, it takes a nation of millions, only built for cubin linx (among many other classics) and that just seems kinda gross even if i do personally prefer this.
and that doesn't even include albums like simbi, ksg, and lp that are even higher

“best hip hop album of the decade so far prob“
Dog this is so good and fun but absolutely not

whats wrong with any of that, its a rating website based on subjective tastes, not an objective ranking of whats good or not. it's literally just a number on a webpage.

would love some recs lol, really outside of this and jpeg's last album i haven't really been truly wowed by much these past few years. even the stuff i've really liked is like 3.8 purgatory.

I can see both arguments. Curious as to what album would handedly beat this though. It's definitely a "fun" album, without a lot of emotional substance, but a great hip hop album doesn't have to be deep. Plus it's just super sonically innovative and fucking good. Idk what else sounds like this, but my brain is kind of fried from lack of sleep and processing medicaid forms so I might not be recalling to my best ability atm. A hip hop album that I'd 5 hasn't happened this decade, though.

@sint i mean nothing really "wrong" with it per se, just pointing out their scale can't really handle the hype that some of these new albums get and it ends up breaking the all time charts a bit
granted, i think the mods or whatever over there probably see it as a feature and not a bug... younger users seeing albums of their time quickly toppling classic boomer shit in the charts has a way of validating taste and further encouraging site use i'm sure (cause unlike here, rym users seem to really really really care about those charts)

LP! is better than this imo
And an album like Sometimes I Might Be Introvert is gonna have more replay value for me personally
God Don't Make Mistakes by Conway the Machine holds a special place in my heart too
Other than that I can't really think of anything I would put above this in hip hop in this decade. Nas and Westside Gunn have put out some great projects but I def wouldn't rate them above this.

ya, gun to my head, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert is my favorite hip hop record of the decade so far. But I'm def not someone that knows a ton about rap. I'd put RTJ4 ahead of this too. And that new(ish) Denzel.

this is more to my taste than rtj4, but i've never really given rtj4 a decent shot. i like the clipped production and off-the-wall sample choices here. probably i also have just watched several hours of peggy interviews and i think he's a cool dude in general haha

Conway - from a king to a god
Genesis owusu - smiling with no teeth (not only hip hop but definitely still hip hop)
Boldy James & alchemist - bo Jackson
Armand hammer - haram
Freddie Gibbs - Alfredo and Bandana
Westside Gunn - pray for Paris
Benny the butcher - tana talk 4
Pink siifu - gumbo
JID - forever story
Jayy grams - every gram counts
stove god cooks & roc Marciano - reasonable drought
ICECOLDBISHOP - generational curse
Like every Mickey Diamond tape he’s put out
Idk man, that’s just like a handful of standouts for you that I think are at least close to on par with this.
