Bruce had such an insane run of albums to start his career that you could really make an argument for anything from Born to Run to Born in the USA as being his best. They all serve different functions in his discography. Personally, I think Born to Run or Darkness on the edge of Town are my favorite, with The River just nipping at the heels.

I ascend every time I hear Backstreets. His voice having a subtle growl on it and the E Street band firing on all cylinders is just sublime

Thunder Road has some of the most impressive songwriting of any song ever, the way it flows from one section to the next, gradually building energy in such a smooth and organic way is amazing

oh and also the lyrics are incredible, 70s Springsteen is easily one of the best lyricists ever. up there with Bob Dylan in his prime

As much as I'd love to admit to tracking your every move, this instance was mere happenstance; checking the score page for this (for another, unrelated purpose), I happened to notice your 'atmoneckbeard' alias at the top of the ratings pile and was taken aback at your favorable score.

I guess it's not terribly surprising when you consider the ubiquitous appeal of the album. You just never struck me as Mr. Heartland Rock, but I guess Bruce is one of those guys who transcends the boundaries a bit. (To be fair, I ain't Mr. Heartland Rock, either, and love pretty much everything this guy has done from NEBRASKA back, so it makes perfect sense. I just like picking on you.)

I think you answered your own question tect. And yeah I’m not really familiar with this sort of thing but there’s definitely something about this one.

Not sure which one I'd pick as my favorite between this and Darkness at the Edge of Town. Both records are amazing

to me Darkness has always been a pretty noticeable step down from this. great album though. I have heard Blue several times it’s really good but probably not top 10 70s albums
