I'd definitely call this acoustic, however you could call them metal probably because of their metal influences. Very controversial though

@mudvaynian: Really the only way to consider these guys metal are in their influences, their Metallica covers, and in the speed of their playing (which does not necessarily make a metal group).
I'm fine with people calling them anything from flametal to crap, I just love them for their music, I couldn't care less what people classify them as.

They do, but I still wouldn't classify them as metal. That Orion cover is pretty good.

The Orion cover was possibly the most boring of all the songs =/

In response to the tracks posted in the listening party:
I don't see how this is technical at all.
Furthermore, the only reason people are calling this metal is because they're using harmonic minor, which, in addition to being used in a lot of thrash, is also a staple of a lot of Spanish-derived music. So essentially, we're all just claiming that because Metallica uses a #7 on some songs, and RyG cover that, surely they are flamometal or whatever.

This is good for an occasional listen but a lot of these songs sound the same. For the record I don't see how this even comes close to being classified as metal.

Heh...Streetlight, I think it's kinda unfair to judge Rodrigo y Gabriela from a Flamenco standpoint considering the fact that they're NOT a flamenco group and in fact explicitely state that they're not in the liner notes to the album.
What they are is a fantastic acoustic fusion duo with a very unique sound and incredible live presence. I don't think I've ever seen two people with acoustic guitars ever get a crowd moving quite like they do, and their originality and energy is very refreshing.
|
| |
They don't have a unique sound. They sound like any street musician with a guitar and Spanish heritage.
