fuck yes. I used to be in radio and would do voice overs to the intro bass line of Hey Man Nice Shot all the time.

Filter's debut, Short Bus is absolutely an epic album on so many levels. It is such an original and truthful piece that always stood out to me among all the classic albums we were treated to in the 90's. Stating every song sounds the same is an opinion I respect but stongly disagree. To me, it's the atmosphere of the album that I find amazing. Each song perfectly blends into the next, all with different feelings and emotion. Richard Patrick spilled guts out on all he endured in his personal life in and out of NIN. It's full of angst, fears, sadness, and pain. There's not one track on this album that I do not like.
After the first track, the most recognizable of Filter's songs - Hey Man Nice Shot, Shirt Bus kicks into high gear. 'Dose,' is an anger driven song directed towards religious zealots who push their beliefs on those who have do not agree with them. Heavy and raw, the message Patrick conveys is very well felt. Next is 'Under,' very bass and beat driven; a journey through Patrick's mind and thoughts while tripping LSD. Amazing break in the middle that is truly mind bending.
'Spent,' kicks in next and is definitely one of my favorite tracks of the album. Patrick questions all the friends in his life who seemed to turn their back on him in times of need. Also original in sound and structure, the message conveyed is one I relate to completely. During their Short Bus tour, tho was the song they always opened with and was perfect to start.
The rest of the album continues with open and honest songs that work perfect with each other. I would write more but have a meeting I have to attend. Don't let the reviewer's rating deter you from listening. Any fan of NIN, Helmet, Deftones should find Short Bus a wonderful ride. I never tire of Filter's mind blowing debut..
Rock on - tatty
